Xiaomi could make the Mi Mix 4 or even a proposed Mi Mix Alpha Pro into a truly bonkers smartphone

Xiaomi is renowned for innovating with its Mi Mix line, and while a lot of rumors have been flying around about the Mi Mix 4, none of them have been especially “innovative”…even though they will be impressive if true. LetsGoDigital, with the help of graphic designer Concept Creator (Jermaine Smit), has put forward the intriguing notion that a recent Xiaomi patent could end up being either the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 or a proposed “Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha Pro”. The concept renders are expertly made, but the device also looks like it would be more “innovative” than marketable.

Once again, we are treated to that huge single camera on the rear, which apparently consists of a 108 MP sensor and is shown to have a mechanical zoom feature in the concept video. This Mi Mix 4/Mi Mix Alpha Pro, which is 5G ready, also features a wraparound display that covers most of the phone apart from the top and bottom edges and the main camera area. The potential Xiaomi Mi Mix device comes in two editions as well, with a transparent/explorer edition also turning up in the original patent images and now in these excellent concept renders.

Fast-charging technology is hinted at in the video, as it is widely expected that the Mi Mix 4 will take full advantage of Xiaomi’s advancements in this particular area. LetsGoDigital opines that having a wraparound display that covers the rear would be useful as a selfie viewfinder for the huge 108-MP AI super camera, but you have to wonder how Xiaomi would protect such a display from all the scratches and smears that smartphone backs generally suffer from.

Xiaomi is not afraid of showing technical development in its Mi Mix series, for example, with the Mi Mix 3 having its famous sliding mechanism for the selfie camera. Would the Chinese OEM risk releasing such a bonkers smartphone as the long-awaited Mi Mix 4 though or would it be safer to stick with the Mi Mix Alpha high concept route instead? Hopefully, we will find out before 2021.
