Another day, another patent that potentially involves Xiaomi. LetsGoDigital has dug up a fascinating smartphone patent filed by an ODM known as Wingtech. Wingtech Technology assembles devices for numerous well-known OEMs, including Huawei, Samsung, and Xiaomi. Considering the specific design of the smartphone in this particular patent, it’s understandable why there is already speculation it could be a Xiaomi device and maybe even the Mi Mix 4.
It’s long been rumored that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, or Mi Mix 2020, will follow the design language of the concept phone Mi Mix Alpha, which means it should have a wraparound display. This particular patent has the smartphone with the screen covering almost the whole of the body of the smartphone, leaving just the top edge, bottom edge, and one side edge uncovered. Hardware buttons would be located on the bottom of the device, which would leave the top edge free to house the pop-up camera unit.
However, this is not the sort of pop-up camera assembly we have already witnessed with other Xiaomi devices such as the Redmi K30 Pro. In this stunning potential Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 we have a full main camera system integrated into the pop-up mechanism, so there are three lenses present and a flash. This device could be magnificent if implemented and produced properly and would certainly represent the innovation that the Mi Mix line is noted for. Or it may just fall by the wayside like so many other patents.
