Alleged images of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2020 smartphone have appeared online, and they offer an interesting solution to getting rid of the punch-hole cut-out for the selfie camera. The likely fan-made renders show the Mi Mix 2020 clad in marble white and sporting a quad-camera system on the rear.

Supposed images of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2020 have been leaked, and the smartphone in the pictures offers a bizarre solution to the display having to bear the blemish of a punch-hole cut-out for the front-facing camera. Instead of a pop-up solution, or under-screen camera, this Mi Mix 2020 has a thickened right-hand size bezel containing the camera sensors and some hardware buttons. So as most smartphone OEMs are falling over themselves to produce devices with higher and higher screen-to-body ratios, apparently Xiaomi is just going to extend an edge instead.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2020 images (see below), which appeared on the Slashleaks website before being rapidly locked for being based on a leaked patent design, are clearly either fake, fan-made, or conceptual designs that have escaped a Xiaomi office somewhere. Apparently, the renders turned up on the Russian-language site for Alibaba as part of advertising banners, but as Xiaomi hasn’t made a peep about the expected Mi Mix 2020 yet (or the Mi Mix 4 either), then it can be safely presumed that the renders on show here are not of the final product.

Along with the counter-intuitive extended edge for the selfie camera and control buttons, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2020 smartphone on show here has a horizontally aligned and centrally located rectangular camera housing on the rear, which if you squint at it long enough does not look like it has been set in the correct position. This obviously indicates some computer-rendering tomfoolery, adding to the fact that surely no discerning smartphone owner would want a Mi Mix 2020 with a crazy extended bezel for integrated cameras and buttons.

Another recent “leak” about a future Mi Mix device, which in this case was the alleged Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 smartphone, depicted a smartphone with a display that wrapped around the device and had an under-screen camera, which is likely what many Xiaomi fans expect from the next Mi Mix flagship smartphone. The Chinese OEM is known to use the Mi Mix line for innovative design choices, but this would be taking an innovating step too far in the wrong direction for the Mi Mix 2020 if it ended up looking like this.
