OnePlus Clover: Mysterious OnePlus mid-range phone makes a benchmark appearance
OnePlus launched its first mid-range phone in years, the OnePlus Nord, last week, and it would appear that the company already has another mid-range offering in the works. The phone in question has now made a surprise appearance on Geekbench while sporting some rather...curious hardware.
Going by the Geekbench listing, the phone is called "OnePlus Clover". That's a left-field name and doesn't seem to have anything to do with "Nord". The phone is listed with 4 GB of RAM, which is on the inadequate side of things but shows that the phone will likely be an entry-level offering.
More interestingly, the phone seems to be sporting a Snapdragon 660. The Snapdragon 660 is well over three years old now, and it's a tad hard to believe that an OEM like OnePlus would use such outdated hardware on a new phone.
That said, Geekbench, in particular, is notoriously easy to game. There's a chance that this listing is inaccurate or false. This isn't the first time word of a OnePlus mid-range phone other than the Nord has surfaced, however; a Snapdragon 690-powered OnePlus device was spotted a while ago. Our insider sources also tell us that the company may, indeed, have such a device in the works.
We'll keep you updated.
