OnePlus Nord: OnePlus dismisses reports of green, purple and yellow display tinting issues about its new mid-range smartphone
Some OnePlus Nord handsets appear to be suffering from display tinting issues. While we did not notice any such aberrations during our time with the Nord, multiple examples of the issue have been shown on r/oneplus and the official OnePlus forum. The issue is a repeat of one that affected early OnePlus 8 Pro handsets, as we reported in April. OnePlus claimed that it addressed the issue for the OnePlus 8 Pro via software updates, although complaints about display tinting on the device remain.
Apparently, display tinting on the OnePlus Nord occurs at 20-25% brightness and can range from the screen looking overly green to purple or yellow. However, 9to5Google notes that the colours on the display of its OnePlus Nord start shifting from as high as 60% brightness. The website contacted OnePlus about the issue and received the following reply:
...Under specific circumstances of low brightness, a slight display discoloration may occur due to the properties of the AMOLED display – this is characteristic of all OLED displays and the degree of discoloration will vary depending on other properties of the display. This is not a quality issue and will not affect daily usage or the durability of the screen.
So, it would seem that OnePlus is blaming display tinting on OLED panels, rather than the ones that it is sourcing for the Nord. With that said, the degree of tinting on some Nord handsets appears to be significantly stronger than on other devices with OLED panels.
