It is normal to see OnePlus offer mid-year refreshes of its phones and it may be no different this time as well. Though the company has just launched the Nord smartphone, a OnePlus 8T device could also be in the works, and it is likely to sport a 64 MP primary shooter.
XDA Developers reports a teardown of the OnePlus Camera app v5.4.23 that shows strings of code hinting at a possible 64 MP camera. Both the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro feature 48 MP sensors, so the references to a 64 MP shooter likely means that OnePlus is updating the camera app for the upcoming phone's camera setup.
The code snippet also reveals a few interesting aspects of the 8T(?)'s camera. Perusing the code, we see that the 64 MP mode "offers high resolution and captures details in well lit scenes". Also, the burst mode will be disabled while shooting in 64 MP and the app will recommend shooting at 16 MP for better dynamic range. The mention of a 16 MP shooting mode is further confirmation that a new OnePlus 8T device is in the works as both the OnePlus 8 phones capture 12 MP photos.
So far, this camera app code snippet is the first clue that a OnePlus 8T device may be coming soon. Usually, OnePlus mid-year refreshes happen around September, so we should be seeing more concrete leaks in the coming months.
