OnePlus sets release date for the OnePlus Z; OnePlus 8 alternative set to arrive before three new OnePlus Smart TVs
OnePlus has confirmed the date when it will be announcing its next smartphone. Thought to be called the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus Z, OnePlus Nord or even perhaps the OnePlus NORD 20s, the device has been teased incessantly on the company's @onepluslitezthing Instagram account over the last few days.
Previously, it had been suggested that OnePlus would announce its next device on July 10. Instead, the company has announced that it will host a launch event on June 30 at 14:00 CET (UTC+02:00). The event will be available on IGTV. OnePlus will then follow the announcement two days later with the unveiling of three new Smart TVs, as we reported yesterday.
A big part of the OnePlus's pre-launch marketing centres on "New Beginnings", possibly hinting at a new start for the company. While the company has teased that the device will incorporate its NORD branding in some way, OnePlus has offered two seemingly unrelated device names on its corresponding Amazon.in page. As the screenshot below demonstrates, OnePlus is asking for feedback on the names OnePlus Lite or OnePlus Z. This could be a decoy of course, but it is the first time that we have seen the name OnePlus Lite.
Correction
It has been brought to our attention that OnePlus may be unveiling the first part of a new documentary series tomorrow. The rumoured OnePlus Z may not feature in tomorrow's announcement as we previously thought OnePlus had confirmed.
