Walmart has the sexy Asus ROG Zephyrus G with Ryzen 7 CPU and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti on sale right now for $900 USD. Don't buy it
Walmart is currently promoting the year-old 15.6-inch Asus Zephyrus GA502DU for $899 USD or $300 off the original asking price. While this would have been a pretty good deal back in 2019, there's almost no reason to buy one at this price now in 2020.
The biggest reason to avoid this particular deal is that the laptop in question is carrying AMD's last generation Zen+ Ryzen 7 3750H CPU instead of the newer Zen 2 Ryzen 7 4800H. The performance difference between the two processors is significant much like jumping from an Intel Core i5 to a Core i9 laptop. AMD's Zen 2 series has effectively rendered the previous Zen+ series obsolete.
Furthermore, laptops with the newer and faster Ryzen 5 4600H or Ryzen 7 4800H can be found online for around the same price as this Zephyrus G sale. The Asus TUF A15 and Dell G5 15 SE are two notable examples that will absolutely outperform the Zephyrus GA502DU. The only worthwhile feature of the GA502DU at this point is its slimmer and sleeker chassis design, but that comes at a cost as well in terms of heat and fan noise. Its display is also adequate at best for gaming based on our own experience with the system.
If you're still interested in the Zephyrus GA502DU, then we would recommend waiting for steeper price drops or seriously consider the similarly-priced aforementioned Asus or Dell alternatives. Otherwise, you'll find that the Zephyrus GA502DU will begin to show its age very quickly when playing the latest titles.
