OnePlus has revealed more details about its upcoming smartphone, finally putting the questions around its name to the bed. Writing on its accompanying Instagram page, OnePlus stated the following:
There were many theories about the new OnePlus phone. Lite wasn't quite right. Z wasn't either. Meet Nord. OnePlus Nord.
The company has also released the first part of a new documentary series about the device, which we have embedded below. As its name suggests, the OnePlus Nord has been influenced by Scandinavian design, with OnePlus aiming to deliver a device that generates "...a fast, smooth and effortless user experience".
OnePlus is yet to confirm what the Nord will look like, although the video does contain a teaser of a prototype. At 5:58 minutes in, a device with dual front-facing cameras can be seen, which is revealed at 6:02 and 6:15 minutes to also have three rear-facing cameras. OnePlus has abandoned this yellow prototype though, so the OnePlus Nord may look completely different.
OnePlus is remaining quiet on pricing too. All we currently know is that it will cost less than US$500. However, this is more than some outlets thought OnePlus would charge for the device. Incidentally, the OnePlus Nord will be available to pre-order from tomorrow at 10:00 CEST. Marked as a "Limited Pre-order", OnePlus will follow tomorrow's availability with more pre-order periods at the same time on July 8 and July 15. According to the OnePlus Nord website, pre-orderers will receive "awesome merch right away" and a "surprise gift" when the smartphone is released. The OnePlus Nord will be available to pre-order for a nominal fee in the following countries:
