Stable MIUI 12 update arrives for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7S
It has been just over a month since Xiaomi upgraded the Redmi Note 7, and by extension the Redmi Note 7S to Android 10 courtesy of MIUI 11 in China. Since then, Xiaomi has upgraded devices on the Indian branch of MIUI to Android 10, albeit while keeping them on MIUI 11. In the meantime, the company has brought MIUI 12 to other devices like the Mi 10, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro via various updates.
Now, Xiaomi has released MIUI 12 to the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7S. Again, the update is only for devices that have been enrolled on the China branch of MIUI. However, the recovery ROM is available to download from Xiaomi's servers should you wish to install it on an unlocked device. The update is called V12.0.1.0.QFGCNXM and is a 2.4 GB download.
If you want to install the update, then you can install it via System update or recovery. To do the former, you must transfer the .zip file to the internal storage of your phone under a folder called "downloaded_rom". When you have done that, you must select "Choose Update Package" from within the three-dot menu in System Update. You may need to tap the MIUI logo ten times to enable this option if it is hidden on your device. You can also reboot into recovery by pressing the volume up and power keys simultaneously with your device switched off.
