Xiaomi Watch 2: Cheaper than expected launch pricing revealed for future bargain Wear OS smartwatch
Earlier this week, a Finnish retailer revealed various details about the Xiaomi Watch 2, five months after presenting the Watch 2 Pro. As we have discussed separately, Keskisen Kello priced the Watch 2 at €219, €50 less than its 'Pro' branded sibling. Surprisingly, both listings remain active, although neither are orderable at the time of writing.
While we speculated that Finland's 24% VAT rate meant that the Watch 2 would arrive for closer to €210 in other Eurozone members, it seems that Xiaomi has other pricing targets in mind. Incidentally, Mobil Online originally priced the Watch 2 at €248.30 before reducing it to €181.40. However, multiple retailers have listed the Watch 2 for €199.99, which seems to be a more typical launch price than €249.30, €219, or €181.40.
Currently, no modern Wear OS smartwatch comes close to undercutting €200, even after various manufacturer discounts. For example, Mobvoi has taken 35% off the TicWatch Pro 5 in its latest sale. Nonetheless, the TicWatch Pro 5 still costs over €230, with the Galaxy Watch6 and Pixel Watch 2 currently officially available for €249 and €399, respectively. Despite a gulf in price between the Xiaomi Watch 2 and its peers, the Watch 2 has a large AMOLED display, a Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset and up to 65 hours of battery life, among other features.
