It's been nearly a year since the Xiaomi Pad 5 series debuted in China. The Xiaomi Pad 6 is in development, of course, and new information has now surfaced about an enigmatic tablet that will likely be powered by a MediaTek chipset.

Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Pad 5 series back in August last year. That, of course, means it's right about time for a successor to that generation. Rumors of the Xiaomi Pad 6 series surfaced in recent weeks, and a new leak has now revealed details of what could be a previously unknown tablet in the lineup.

This new tablet, as revealed by Xiaomiui, is codenamed "Yunluo" and bears the internal model number " L83". That's an interesting detail, as this isn't the first time word of "L83" has appeared. Last month, Digital Chat Station claimed that "L83" was being prepped for launch globally with the model number "22081283G". In that same post, the reliable leaker claimed Xiaomi was also readying "L81" as a direct successor to the Xiaomi Pad 5.

Existing information may be hazy but Xiaomi generally uses internal code numbers in a particular way. "L3" was the Xiaomi 12, with "L2" being the Xiaomi 12 Pro. "L1" is presumably the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra. There's a pattern there, and one that indicates "L83" will likely be the lowest, cheapest model in the series.

Supposedly, "L83" will be powered by a MediaTek chipset. Seeing as "L81A" is expected to feature a Snapdragon 870, that essentially rules out "L83" featuring any of MediaTek's high-end SoCs, including the Dimensity 9000 or similar. Xiaomiui claims the tablet will be a Wi-Fi-only model as well, which fits right into that theory. Whatever "L83" may be, we'll be sure to keep you updated. Release is tipped to August or September, so more information will likely surface in coming weeks.
