Xiaomi Mi Band 5: Official launch date and release date revealed and new renders posted

The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will be officially launched on June 11 according to a recent post by the Chinese OEM on Weibo. Following the announcement, the successor to the Mi Band 4 will go on sale in its domestic market on June 18. It makes sense for Xiaomi to pick the latter date for the Mi Band 5 release as this is a popular e-commerce shopping festival in China, known as “618”.

No doubt it won’t be too long after the Chinese release date that the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will find its way into other regional markets where the Mi Bands have been successful, such as India and Europe. No price for the Mi Band 5 has currently been offered, although expectations for the wearable have hovered at around 200 yuan (US$28) for the home market and US$30-40 in international markets.

However, it’s possible that the price of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be even higher than expected due to the numerous features it is bringing with it, such as an SpO2 sensor, NFC functionality, and a remote camera controller. New renders of the Mi Band 5 show the 1.2-inch display and the strap, and there is no sign of the dramatic punch-hole cut-out that featured in recent leaked images that were alleged to be of the Xiaomi wearable.

In fact, one render of the Mi Band 5 (see below) shows that the screen will not be quite as full as some may have expected, with Xiaomi seemingly sticking to the rectangular display that the predecessor Mi Band 4 had, although the latest version will have a larger screen (1.2-inch vs. 0.95-inch). Fortunately, the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 can make up for not being a full-screen wearable by being practically brimming with utilities and hopefully selling at an attractive price point.
