New leaks regarding the Xiaomi 17 Ultra suggest the company is taking a different approach to its flagship camera system. Contrary to expectations of maintaining or even increasing the lens count, recent images of the phone's photography kit accessories point to a departure from the past: the device will feature a triple rear camera setup. Now, another source supports the tweak design and offers additional information: the rear camera system specs of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
The current Xiaomi 15 Ultra features a quad-camera setup, notably including two zoom lenses. However, it appears the company will drop one of these in the next-gen model.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera specs leak: Quality over quantity?
The latest leak comes from Xiaomi Time. Their report claims that the tech giant will drop the dedicated 50MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom) from the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The final camera specs of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will reportedly include the following sensors:
- Main camera: 50MP OVX10500U sensor.
- Telephoto: 200MP S5KHPE sensor
- Ultrawide: 50MP OV50M or S5KJN5 sensor.
- Front camera: 50MP OV50M
The specific reason why the company might opt for fewer rear camera sensors has not yet been revealed. Reports from September claimed that Samsung was mass-producing continuous zoom camera sensors and that major Chinese brands would be the first to use them. The 200MP zoom sensor that the Xiaomi Mi 17 Ultra is allegedly going to integrate is from Samsung, so the door is open. However, this is just speculation for now.
Specs-wise, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. The device is expected to run on HyperOS 3 out of the box with support for advanced AI features, many of which will complement the new camera system. Furthermore, the company may release a version with satellite communication support in the global market.
