Valve announces fresh round of reservations for Steam Controller

Unsurprisingly, the Steam Controller sold out within half an hour of its initial sale. Scalpers were charging up to $250 for one- a ludicrous amount for a $99 controller. Those who missed out on the first wave can try their luck again tomorrow (May 8, 10:00 PST/ 07:00 CET). Valve is opening up reservations again, and this time, the process will be slightly different.
You have to reserve your place in the queue for a chance to buy the controller. After that, an email will be sent to the ID linked to your Steam account, following which you have 72 hours to complete the purchase. An account can purchase only one controller, and not three, as was the rule last time. Anyone who bought one earlier is automatically ineligible.
As for the actual Steam account, it must be in good standing and have made at least one purchase before April 27, 2026. Only users based in the US and Canada will be able to make reservations tomorrow. Valve says it will expand it to other regions (EU, Australia, etc.) in the coming weeks.
Overall, it looks like Valve has plenty of Steam Controllers to go around, so it won’t be too hard to buy one even if you missed the first few rounds. It is only a matter of time before it is purchasable from the Valve store like the Steam Deck.
