In spite of its many rumored hardware upgrades, a new leak now claims Xiaomi's upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, could launch globally with a lower price tag than the Xiaomi 13 Ultra did last year.

Xiaomi's main traditional flagship for the year, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, is scheduled to be unveiled sometime next month, with a number of hardware upgrades in tow. According to a new leak, however, those upgrades may not come at an extra cost compared to last year's Xiaomi 13 Ultra, and the reverse could actually be the case.

As shared by leaker Kartikey Singh, there are reportedly whisperings on the grapevine that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will launch globally with a lower price tag than the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Supposedly, this is due to Xiaomi restructuring its global pricing strategy, with the company seemingly set to bring new premium devices to the global market—devices like the Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip, as previously reported.

That isn't the most solid of reasons, admittedly, and it's almost hard to believe Xiaomi would lower the MSRP of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, with previous generations seeing steady increases in pricing. The Mi 11 Ultra launched in Europe with an MSRP of €1,199, for example. Two years later, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra arrived with a base price tag of €1,499. Expecting the Xiaomi 14 Ultra to be cheaper could well be an exercise in futility, but what's life without hope?
