Timex launches 3 new compact minimalist watches with stainless-steel bracelets
Alongside its larger 38 mm automatics, Timex has taken the E Line in the opposite direction — the company has unveiled three quartz models built around a super compact 30 mm case. The TW6A01000 has a pink sunray dial on a steel bracelet at $269, TW6A00900 is gold-tone at $289, and TW6A00800 features a champagne dial with a two-tone bracelet and gold-tone bezel, also at $289. All three are in stock as of writing.
As expected, the case features the classic rounded-square shape that earned the 1983 original its "TV Dial" nickname, but at 30 mm across, 36.5 mm lug-to-lug and 8.5 mm thick, it's well under the 34 mm automatic version and is among the smaller watches Timex currently sells. Accordingly, lug width drops to 10 mm, and the bracelet fits wrists between 135 mm and 190 mm.
The watches are powered by a battery-powered quartz movement running on an SR626SW cell, so there is no date function and no exhibition caseback — great for those who love their minimalist dials. The dials employ a sunray finish as opposed to the horizontal texture on the new automatics. There are applied hour markers and a printed minute track as well. Water resistance is 50 metres. The brushed and polished bracelet closes with a butterfly deployant clasp.
There's a minor inconsistency here, however. Timex's launch post specifications say that the watches are protected by a flat mineral glass crystal. However, feature copy further down the product pages refers to acrylic instead. The same conflict appears on the 38 mm automatic listings.
Pricing-wise, the quartz models are in the ballpark of the 34 mm automatics, which sell between $259 and $299 and are equipped with a Miyota mechanical movement and a date window. Buyers are paying largely for the smaller case rather than the mechanics.
