The RedMagic 7 series comes with up to 1TB of internal storage, an inaugural under-display camera variant - and 165W chargers in the boxes

RedMagic has unveiled its latest Android phones today, thereby confirming that the new flagships offer the best its brand has managed to develop thus far and more. They include a "Deuterium Blade" transparent SKU, which puts the devices' active spnning fan on show and in RGB.

The option is available in both the RedMagic 7 and 7 Pro; alternatively, there is a more subtle Night Knight colorway, although extreme styles have also been restored to the series today (February 17, 2022) in the form of the third Cyber Neon option. In the case of the 7, the vertical triple camera module has also returned; however, there is a new stove-top hump for the 7 Pro.

Either housing contains a 64+8+2MP set0up that is definitely not the focus of this line of phones. Indeed, fans might be interested in the new generations of RedMagic's ICE cooling system for the 2022 flagships' internals.

The 8.0 version found in the 7 consists of the fan - obviously - rated to go up to 20,000rpm while emitting no more than 28 decibels of noise. It is connnected to a new metal "canyon air duct", and is also backed up with 8 additional layers of various solutions, an almost obligatory vapor chamber, apparently super-conductive "gel" and an "aerospace-grade phase change" system.

The ICE system goes up to 9.0 in the 7 Pro, however, thanks to a total surface area of 41,279mm², 4124mm² of which is taken up by an enlarged vapor chamber. Its own fan is now rated for up to 33.3% greater airflow, despite its smaller size.

It is rated to drop the temperature of the CPU in question by up to 16ºC (60.8ºF) alone, and to work with the rest of the system to keep performance consistent over time, even when gaming. The processor in question will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 silicon, accompanied by LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage in both the 7 and 7 Pro.

The Red Core 1 co-processor will join these internals in the 7 Pro. These specs will drive the latest RedMagic 5.0 based on Android 12, not to mention 6.8-inch 20:9 FHD+ AMOLED displays in both the 7 and 7 Pro.

In the case of the Pro variant, however, there will be one important difference, and that is the lack of a visible selfie camera. The 16MP shooter hides under the panel instead, thereby frankly making the new RedMagic flagship look like the iPhone many tech fans might want, what with its flat edges and all.

Then again, this new upgrade comes with a drawback, which is that its refresh rate falls compared to that of the 6S Pro to 120Hz. The OEM has striven to make up for this with a new 960Hz touch-sampling rate and a max brightness bumped up to 700 nits.

Nevertheless, fans of RedMagic's signature 165Hz rate will have to look to the 7 instead. The vanilla model also boasts the 120W charging rate of the 6S Pro, whereas the 7 Pro graduates to a new top-end 135W standard.

Then again, RedMagic has indicated that it is throwing its new, compact and most importantly 165W GaN charger in with either variant. The brand touts the new power brick as the only one a customer will ever need, and should it have the multi-standard support hinted at during its reveal, it might well be.

Then again, it has just 1 USB type-C port, meaning its super-powered new potential charging speed cannot be split between a number of a user's devices at once.

The RedMagic 7 series has only debuted in China so far, and as such only has pricing for this region. The 7's structure will start at 3,899 yuan (~US$615) for an 8GB/128 GB SKU, although its top-end Deuterium options will sell for 4,899 to 5,499 yuan (~$773-868), as they have 12GB/256GB and 16/512GB configurations respectively.

The 7 Pro, on the other hand, will start at 4,799 yuan (~$757), although this is for a 12GB/128GB entry-level model. It goes up to 7,499 yuan (~$1,183) for a top-end SKU, and this is because it packs 1TB of storage to go with its 18GB RAM (and single Deuterium colorway, of course).

It will be interesting to see if this top-end unit makes it to the international market, where the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the only other new option for that much storage at this point. The RedMagic 7 line is available to pre-order in China from now, with normal sales starting on February 21, 2022.
