Fans of classic RedMagic looks and specs located outside of China may be glad to see the brand's new flagship smartphone, the 7, coming at them just 3 days after its initial launch in its native country. This new high-end gaming smartphone offers its OEM's class-leading 165Hz refresh rate in a generous 6.8-inch AMOLED display, augmented with shoulder triggers besides.
On the other hand, the international version of the 7 might disappoint, considering the innovations and improvements RedMagic unveiled for its potential 2022 customers in China. There, the phone ships with the same 120W charging speed from the preceding 6S Pro; however, it also comes with a new power brick rated to go up to 165W as a bonus in the box.
This gallium nitride (GaN) accessory is, unfortunately, missing in the original packaging for the global 7, in which its 4,500mAh battery's "air-cooled" charging technology is capped at 65W in the wider world. It does come with a new RedMagic GaN power brick that equals this spec, at least.
On the other hand, the RedMagic 7 remains one of the very few smartphones with active cooling on the international market, a spec augmented with a vapor chamber, "aerospace-grade" materials and an air-duct to name but a few of the "ICE 8.0 multi-dimensional" cooling system paired to its new top-end processor.
Finally, the RedMagic 7 seems to have arrived without its Pro variant, the only one of its series to launch with an under-display camera. Then again, its vanilla counterpart might make up for its absence (whether a delay or an omission altogether is less than clear at this point) by debuting as one of the most interesting-looking Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones out there for just US$629.
Furthermore, this base model, which will be available with early-bird offers from March 3, 2022, is slated to offer 12GB of RAM with its 128GB of internal storage.
