Nubia sets a launch date for the RedMagic 7 flagship gaming smartphone series in a transparent new teaser
RedMagic has strongly hinted at the possibility of its inaugural under-display selfie camera phone in 2022. Now, it has effectively confirmed the same in the course of teasing a new Special Edition of the imminent 7 series. It will be a successor to the 6S Pro in that it will be transparent - or have a rear panel made to look see-through, at least.
This finish also incorporates little legends or etchings pointing to certain RedMagic 7 USPs. They include a physical spinning (and RGB) fan that goes up to 20,000rpm - and an "under-display camera". Accordingly, this variant - reportedly set to launch as the "7 Deuterium Edition" - might be at the top end of prices commanded by the Nubia brand this year.
Now, all that remains to be seen is whether this new type of screen will support the OEM's industry-leading 165Hz refresh rate or not. On the subject of speed, RedMagic has now seen fit to rip a certain Band-Aid off ahead of time: it seems the new, ground-breaking 165W charging spec uncovered in earlier leaks pertains to its new power brick only.
This accessory is also slated to be based on gallium nitride (GaN) technology, and may or may not be included in the box with a 7-series unit. The actual phones, on the other hand, will charge at "just" 135W. Nevertheless, the brand has indicated that this will still drive a charging speed of 0-100% in as little as 15 minutes.
Therefore, RedMagic should launch flagship smartphones that charge as fast as their displays' frame-rates. This is now scheduled to occur on February 17, 2022 at 15:00 Beijing time (08:00 CET).
