After several weeks of rumors, the Realme GT Neo 2 5G is now official. The device first launched in China last month and has made its way to Indian shores today. The GT Neo 2 5G is an upper-midrange smartphone that looks to compete with the Xiaomi Mi 11X and also the Redmi K40G Pro later this year.
Powering the Realme GT Neo 2 5G is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G SoC, which has been the staple of several upper-midrange devices such as the OnePlus 9R and Xiaomi Mi 11X. We hear that a MediaTek Dimensity 1200-based GT Neo 2T is on the cards as well. Complementing the Snapdragon 870 SoC is 8 GB/12 GB RAM that is further expandable by 7 GB and 128 GB/256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The GT Neo 2 5G also sports the company's first HDR10+ display, which is a 6.62-inch 120 Hz E4 AMOLED with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Apparently, E4 is the best option available from Samsung to OEMs other than Apple and Sony. Realme said that the device also features a triple-ambient light sensor that adapt the display for comfortable viewing no matter the ambient light. A 600 Hz touch sampling rate should please gamers, who prefer fast, lag-free input.
One of the highlights of the GT Neo 2 5G is the use of an 8-layer cooling system with a 4,129 mm2 vapor chamber cooling plate made of a stainless steel-copper combination and diamond thermal gel on the CPU for effective heat dissipation. According to the company, the diamond particles in the thermal gel are between 40 and 50 microns in size and have a thermal conductivity up to 2,000 W/mK at room temperature. This is interesting as even high-end liquid metal CPU pastes such as the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut top-out at about 73 W/mK.
Realme said this implementation results in a 20% higher efficiency and an 18 °C peak reduction in core temperature but hasn't exactly specified to what this is being compared to.
Other features include a 5,000 mAh battery with 65 W SuperDart charging that claims to charge the phone from 0 to 100% in 36 minutes. Also available is a triple-camera setup with a 64 MP primary sensor with a 26 mm focal length, a 119° wide-angle lens with a 15.7 mm focal length, and a 4 cm macro lens with a 21.88 focal length. There's a 16 MP in-display selfie-camera on the front. Realme is placing emphasis on street photography with the availability of a Street Photography mode that also includes RAW capture and film simulations.
The Realme GT Neo 2 5G will be available in Neo Green, Neo Blue, and Neo Black color options. The 8 GB+128 GB variant is priced at ₹31,999 (US$425) while the 12 GB+256 GB variant will retail for ₹35,999 (US$478).
A discount of ₹7,000 (US$93) is applicable for those who buy the device on first sale scheduled for 17th October, midnight IST via Flipkart, realme.com, and other mainline channels. Customers who pre-book the GT Neo 2 5G also stand to get an assured Realme Watch 2 Pro worth ₹5,999 (US$80). Flipkart Plus members will have early access to the sale on 16th October 12 noon IST.
