A cheaper TV from TCL, the S5, has arrived in the US. The 4K model, also known as the S551G, is an upgraded version of the S4, which does not feature in the 2024 range. You can choose from seven display sizes, from 43-inches up to 98-inches.
Thanks to the High Brightness LED Backlight, the S5 is 25% brighter than the older S4, with a wider color gamut for more vivid images. The TV is powered by the AiPQ processor, the first S Class model to do so, for enhanced clarity and brightness. The S5 also supports HDR Pro, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Another new feature for this class of TVs is Game Accelerator 120, which sits alongside MEMC, ALLM and the Game Bar. The device has a built-in 2.0 channel speaker system with an Enhanced Dialog Mode and support for Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. Plus, the TV uses Google TV Smart OS, with Chromecast, Apple AirPlay 2, and voice commands from Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
You can now buy the TCL S5 TV in the US, where the 43-inch model costs $249.99, and the 85-inch device is priced at $999.99; a full price list is below. It is unclear when the 98-inch version will go on sale. TCL has also recently launched the Q6, QM7 and QM8 models, including a range-topping 115-inch variant.
