TCL reveals P2A Ultra mini LED gaming monitor with peak 1040 Hz refresh rate

Alongside the 32X3A ultra-thin OLED gaming monitor, TCL has also announced a bunch of other gaming monitors with different price points and promised capabilities. The 27P2A Ultra is perhaps the most interesting among the bunch, courtesy of its claimed 1040 Hz refresh rate.
This makes the TCL 27P2A the first gaming monitor with a mini LED panel to exceed the 1000 Hz mark. Of course, the real-world benefits may be hard to tell for average gamers, but those obsessed with competitive gaming will likely be pleased with such massive numbers.
1040 Hz refresh rate likely requires serious quality compromise
Pricing and availability details for the P2A Ultra gaming monitor remain unclear as of this writing. As pointed out by VideoCardz, the monitor can only hit 550 Hz at its native 2K resolution, and the company did not share any details regarding the resolution required for the monitor to be able to hit the advertised 1040 Hz.
For context, the Samsung Odyssey G6 - which we have talked about previously - also supports 1040 Hz refresh rate, but only at a resolution of 1280 x 720. It is possible that the P2A Ultra requires a similar resolution compromise.

The number of dimming zones on offer has also not been revealed, making it difficult for us to gauge just how good the panel's contrast ratio might be. OLED panels will definitely have the upper-hand in this regard, courtesy of pixel-level dimming.
Other features of the TCL 27P2A Ultra gaming monitor that TCL has revealed includes AI features to enhance dark areas such as shadows, quicker flash recovery, and crosshair color adjustment depending on backgrounds.
For now, gamers who want high-end refresh rates can opt for something like the 32" Asus ROG Swift, which can achieve 480 Hz at 1080p and is currently available for $1,299 on Amazon.
