Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S21
The Samsung Galaxy S21 is the smallest and least expensive of the three new Galaxy S21 models and should be the obvious choice for most users. The 6.2-inch device lacks a few features of the more expensive Galaxy S21 models, but that doesn't change its high-end quality: The performance, display, and camera are great, and the price is even lower than that of the Galaxy S20.

Samsung Galaxy S21 is the right choice for all the right reasons. What that means is the compromises Samsung has made with the Galaxy S21 seem big but they aren’t that big of a deal when it comes to the practical aspect of the smartphone.

The Galaxy S21 delivers the flagship Samsung experience in a phone that's much more pocketable (and affordable) than the top-end S21 Ultra. You'll lose out on the Ultra's major camera improvements, as well its S Pen support, but this is still a great phone at the right price.

The only fly in the ointment, is the Galaxy S20. If you already have an S20 then I don’t think you’ll benefit from an upgrade. I feel Samsung knows this and the S21 is more for people with older Galaxy phones or looking to move to their next phone. If you're in such a position, then I really suggest you consider the Galaxy S21 as you won’t be disappointed.

Still, those are relatively small blemishes on a phone that otherwise improved so much on its predecessor. If you haven't upgraded in a while, or if you're simply looking to upgrade and you're already familiar with Samsung, the Galaxy S21 is definitely worth a look. You can buy the Snapdragon variant in the U.S. on Amazon, where it's currently discounted to $699.99, making it an even better deal. In the UK, the Exynos variant (the one we tested), is available starting at £735.80 depending on your color of choice.

That’s a tough call. By no means is the Galaxy S21 a bad phone. It’s a perfectly good phone. If you have a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S10 and are looking to pick-up something new, it would be an upgrade. Will you be blown away like you would if you bought the Galaxy S21 Ultra (review)? I don’t think so.

Does the Galaxy S21 prove that maybe less is more? I’d say so. I think if you’re in need of a new phone, you’ll be more than happy upgrading to the S21. It’s an attractive-looking waterproof device that packs powerful performance, outstanding cameras, long battery life, all for a lower price than its predecessor. And for those who want more, including improved zoom performance for photos, battery life, memory, and a bigger and better display you can well … spend more on the S21 Ultra instead.

All in all, although this generation hasn’t been perfectly executed, and I still have mixed feelings about the displays on the S21 and S21+, it’s generally a much better and well rounded line-up than last year, especially with the new more attractive pricing.

If a compact phone isn’t what you’re looking for, then you might want to take a look at the $100 cheaper Galaxy S20 FE. Its LTE variant is powered by the Exynos 990, but it still offers excellent performance, long battery life, a high refresh rate display, pretty much the same main camera and slightly better zoom pictures, and, most importantly, a microSD slot and Samsung Pay with NFC support. It will also get updates up to Android 13, so even though it’s older than the S21, it’s not going to be immediately outdated once you purchase it.

At a glance, Samsung has made one of its better Galaxy S launches in recent years with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. They put the phones out early, yet managed to deliver a powerful and beautiful trio. Each device - be it the regular, plus, or Ultra variant - were stylish in their ways, and cater very well towards everyday use.

Overall, Samsung's entry-level flagship for this year is a great addition to its lineup. The S21, for the most part, has made reasonable compromises that make this device suitable for many people, especially considering the price. If you're someone who is looking to get a device that will give you incredible performance, decent battery life, and a consistent camera experience—all within a sleek, unique design—the S21 really is one of the best price-to-feature phones released thus far.

We go hands-on with Samsung's latest flagship, powered by an Exynos 2100 (or Snapdragon 888), 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. Samsung has also reduced the price of the phone by $200 compared to the S20, and that comes with some sacrifices.

In the end, the new Samsung Galaxy S21 5G has an excellent value proposition, and packs some of the latest mobile platform technologies into a svelte, beautifully-designed, size-efficient device. In this case, you get what you pay for and then some. The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G checks a lot of boxes that many next-generation 5G phones should, only at a price point that will minimize sticker shock for those looking to update their smartphone without such a major financial commitment. The Galaxy S21 5G is indeed, HotHardware approved.

The Galaxy S21 lineup is now available. Before you buy one, the biggest takeaway you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, along with the Galaxy S21 Plus 5G and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, is that Samsung cut the US price of each by $200 (the savings are less in other countries). Clearly this wasn't done out of generosity and Samsung's made trade-offs to hit that lower price on the Galaxy S21: The wall charger and headphones don't come in the box, the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot for expanded storage and it has 4GB of RAM less than the S20. Samsung also removed half of the pixels from the screen and replaced the Gorilla Glass from the back with polycarbonate, which is a nice way of saying plastic.

As solid a flagship as you'll find, the Galaxy S21 5G is a true all-rounder. That said, there are not enough improvements to warrant an upgrade if you purchased a flagship device in 2020. If your device pre-dates that, then the S21 5G is well worth considering as a daily driver.

So, let’s break it down: Should you buy the Galaxy S21? Well, if you’re looking for a compact flagship phone with the latest features and a beautiful design, don’t mind the lack of expandable storage or full-fledged Samsung Pay support, and are okay with your phone heating up at times (an issue that, should it be widespread, will likely be fixable through a software update), the Galaxy S21 will suit you well. It’s not a huge step up over the Galaxy S20, but then not many people are upgrading their phones yearly so that shouldn’t matter all that much.

There's a lift in design for the Galaxy S21, resulting in a phone that looks fresh and exciting, and a great display, offering adaptive refresh rates. While it sounds like a lot of praise for the current batch of Galaxy S phones by Samsung, we're also not blind to the missteps that came with the Galaxy S21 series. If you ask us, the Koreans should've kept microSD compatibility instead of removing it, and bring back 1440p on to the S21 and S21+ for the people who actually know how to use them. The real shame is the removal of a charging adapter. Indeed, Samsung could've found it in them to at least give a universal fast-charging adapter, considering the sticker prices of these premium devices.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is the latest and greatest from Samsung. And today we are going to see how the S21 Ultra works from the inside. Its not the normal periscope camera, and invincible battery adhesive. But there is one thing we haven't seen yet... and thats the MASSIVE fingerprint scanner. At RM3,699, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is actually more affordable than the Galaxy S20 when it was first launched. The predecessor was priced at RM3,599 and offered only 128GB of storage, but this phone comes with 256GB of storage. The Galaxy S21 is an impressive flagship and I think Samsung made the right choice with the minor adjustments. That being said, the Galaxy S21 may be overshadowed by the upcoming phones in 2021 since some other brands are already offering things like 65W fast charging and 44MP front cameras.

When we gave the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE an Editors' Choice award a few months ago, we called it "everything you need, and nothing else." That’s still true. The Galaxy S21 definitely moves the bar up, but it does so with features that don't quite justify the price for now. Yes, there are new camera modes; yes, low-light selfies are dramatically improved. Otherwise, the Snapdragon 888 doesn't make a noticeable difference in performance, and the improved network features aren't available yet.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a good phone that, above all, offers high processing performance and a reliable camera. It's not that we don't like the Galaxy S21. On the contrary, we're quite fond of its looks, and there's proven substance beneath them. But maybe that's the issue - it's a little too proven. Unsurprisingly, the S21 is a good phone. It has a powerful processor, a lovely screen, capable cameras and a long-lasting battery. If you prefer a pure Google experience and want to save $100, the Pixel 5 may be good enough for you. Since it was a hands-on before the official launch, we had limited time and space to explore the Galaxy S21 series with. We used the time to better understand Director's View, a new feature joining Samsung's already pro-grade series of cameras and camera functionalities. In a nutshell, Director's View is a unique live-editing feature for video recording. It has three main components. There's a key video feed that takes up most of the recording and a picture-in-picture feed of the opposing, user-facing camera. Three other video feeds on the right allow the user to preview the look and feel coming from Samsung's other rear lenses running in real-time (called Live Thumbnail). Tapping on any of the three feeds would swap the main feed out for the other. In a completed recording, you actually do not see any of previews from other lenses - only the picture-in-picture feed and the main, world-facing footage remains.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is available for preorder between today and January 28th, and you'll receive $200 in Samsung Credit and a free Galaxy SmartTag. It will be priced from $1,199, which is also a $200 discount compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Samsung is throwing in a LOT of freebies when customers pre-order the new phones from January 15 to 28. You’re getting a pair of Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live with every pre-order, as well as a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 tablet, Galaxy SmartTag, and a 25W Wall Charger.

At face value, the £769 S21 and the £949 S21+ might not have enough new features to warrant an upgrade. It really depends on what you're comparing it to; if you have an older Samsung model or a lesser flagship phone it probably makes more sense. However, if you have last year's S20, you're really just upgrading to a sleeker camera design and that new purple colour. This is a great new Galaxy, but it feels a lot like one we've already visited.

Samsung launched three different S21 models, but the specs showed off today were not a surprise: An extensive leak from Android Police gave almost the entire spec sheet for all three phones, and promotional slides released by tipster Evan Blass confirmed most of those details.

It's not that I find the S21 Ultra disappointing, it's that I'm having to work hard to find reasons to be excited. Perhaps some of that is down to Samsung's press briefings leaning too much on older features rather than outlining what's new, but I can't help but feel if they can't immediately grab the attention of a pro photographer who's also a committed tech obsessive (me) then how are they going to grab the attention of their paying customers?
