Rollme has launched a new smartwatch, the U8 Ultra, which is a rather unusual model. The smartwatch does not have a dedicated operating system, but rather uses Android 9.0, a somewhat outdated version. This ensures broad compatibility with applications, but the relatively low display resolution may cause problems with certain apps.
An LTE module is installed and a SIM card can be installed, which enables users to make phone calls and send messages from the wrist. The built-in GNSS module provides navigational capabilities with up-to-data traffic data. Other typical smartwatch functions are also listed, such as heart rate and blood oxygen measurement. A certain degree of protection against water is also advertised, but the Rollme U8 Ultra is unlikely to be suitable for swimming.
A Unisoc 8541E is installed as the SoC alongside 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. A battery with a capacity of 1,000 mAh is installed, but wearables with a wholly Android OS usually have a much shorter battery life compared to other smartwatches with a native OS. The display is a 1.5-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 480 x 480, flanked by two buttons and a crown on the right. A camera is hidden in the crown, with which photos can be taken.
The Rollme U8 Ultra is available directly from the manufacturer at a price of $90. Buyers have the choice between black, white and orange.
