Review Intel Core i7 Processors in Notebooks

Review Intel Core i7 Processors in Notebooks

The need for speed. Up till now desktop processors often preceded their equivalents in the notebook sector. Although the field of mobile-computing is still growing and has long thrown off its shadow-existence, there won't be anything changing this trend at the moment, probably also because of technical difficulties to be solved. Therefore, many resourceful notebook manufacturers now offer mobile devices with an integrated desktop CPU. The mySN QXG7 notebook (Clevo D9F) belongs to the few currently available models.

83% Review Asus W90VP Gaming Notebook

Heroes die young. At Cebit this year the W90 from Asus was still the big eye-catcher, where it promised gaming performance, which you would otherwise more likely find from the Alienware camp. Although Asus rightly worked flat out on the design of the case, the deployed hardware was first and foremost the reason for the overall interest in the notebook. Two Mobility Radeon HD4870 graphics cards connected via Crossfire should have put the fear of God into the competition. – yeah, should have…

The white one. Samsung had gone on the netbook stage late with its NC10, but after a while of market monitoring, hit a homerun right away with the latecomer. The staff is now accordingly high for one of the successors, the N120, which shows a few innovations. How the newbie scores and if it can fulfill the high expectations is shown in the following test...

The Long-Distance Runner. The Wind U115 Luxury is a netbook alternative from MSI, which attracts attention especially due to its built-in components and a promised long-life battery. An Intel Atom Z530 CPU, an Intel Poulsbo chip set with a GMA500 graphic chip set and a built-in SSD memory unit in addition to the hard disk is supposed to bridle the energy requirement especially effectively in mobile mode. Hands-On: Sony Vaio-W11 Netbook in Review

Hands-On: Sony Vaio-W11 Netbook in Review

Latecomer. Netbooks were a no-go topic for Sony for a long time. They did unleash two ultra-mobile mini-notebooks onto the market with the Vaio P11 and P21, but these discerned themselves strongly from the mainstream-netbooks already because of their comparatively high price. The good sales figures of many other manufacturers will have probably let Sony change their mind in the meantime. We present: The Sony Vaio W11 with a 10.1" display (1366x768) and an Intel Atom N280 CPU.

Hands-On: Alienware M17x Notebook in Review

The empire strikes back. The announced takeover of Alienware by Dell was accompanied with hopes, as well as fears, in the gamer community. It was hoped that the devices would hereafter take a step towards Dell's standards in view of workmanship and case quality. At the same time, it was also feared that the once uncompromising performance-orientation would suffer enormously under the cost pressure, as Alienware was to replace the XPS series from now on. Toshiba NB Netbook, Episode 2. As the 8.9 inch sized NB 100 has recently been in our test lab, now Toshiba's second netbook coup, the NB 200, is already on the test-bench. This time, however, with a 10.1 inch display for an improved overview. The question, if the Toshiba NB200 can even be considered to be the NB 100's heir, as the implemented hardware of both models by and large are conform, or if it's simply a refresh of the NB 100 with a larger display and altered look, remains to be seen.

Wide, light, and enduring…Acer brings into play a format so far untypical of netbooks with the 11.6" Aspire One 751 and calls it a "Widescreen Netbook". Bargain for Gamers. ATI obviously has hit a captivating homerun with the 4600 series. Good performance data and a sizeable price advantage compared to Nvidia's competition make the hardware especially interesting for gaming starters. The German reseller Schenker Notebooks is, for instance, at the very front, bringing out a compact 15.6 inch notebook based on the Compal HLB Barebone with their MG6. Netbook with style. Following the Mini 2133 and the Mini 701, HP's most recent netbook release has been available for some time now, featuring an updated Intel Atom CPU and a 10.1" LED display in order to fulfill current standards. One hardly finds any innovations compared to the present models, apart from the chassis' design. The reflecting display, designed in an edge-to-edge way, remains and does not let the HP Mini 2140 appear to be "business-like" at all.

"Don't call it a netbook!" it was declared then. It certainly belongs in the league of the mini-notebooks, optically and from its proportions. Dell refers to the considerably higher quality multimedia-orientation of the new XPS 13 and XPS16 models with the additional Studio.

Review Toshiba Portégé R500-12P Subnotebook

87% Review Toshiba Portégé R500-12P Subnotebook

First Class Travelling, the second. The laptop producer Toshiba equips the Portégé decently and sticks to the strengths that we found in our review of March 2008. Thankfully, the worksmanship, the design and the material used have not been changed. Even on the hardware side, the processor, the graphics card, and the RAM were not changed much. In this review you will find out what has changed.

Review Samsung NC10 Netbook

90% Review Samsung NC10 Netbook

It doesn't always have to be an Eee… There's no question, the Eee 1000H from Asus can convince in many ways and sets the staff for its competitors very high. But, one of the hottest candidates to debase the Eee is the Samsung NC20 netbook. It offers an equally convincing mobility with the same built in hardware and what's more - a very chic appearance. In this regard, the NC10 can even top the Eee.

Review Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Notebook

86% Review Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Notebook

Netbook or not, that is the question. After all the notebooks on the market have steadily added on functions in the last few years, many users have often called into question the necessity of dozens of features, the upcoming netbooks have reconsidered this trend. Equipped with only the most important and basic functions, they found an enormous following. Dell has solved the frequent problem of the screens being to small and unworkable with a, let's say 12" netbook, even though the official nomenclature contradicts it.

Review Asus EeePC 1000H Netbook

89% Review Asus EeePC 1000H Netbook

Trendsetter. Once, the first Eee PC from Asus, equipped with a 7 inch display, set the long-lasting netbook hype in motion. The netbooks rapidly kept on being perfected. At first, a 9 inch screen provided for a bonus of overview until almost all netbooks were equipped with a 10" display. Asus was always in the front row and characterized the development of the netbooks like no other manufacturer.

Review Dell Latitude E5500 Notebook

86% Review Dell Latitude E5500 Notebook

Business Trabant. Latitude E6500 and E5500 – those are the names for Dells 15.4 inch workhorses. The first digit doesn't apply to various form factors, as you might presume. No, it stands for the case type. While the E6xxx models try to make bonus points with a robust aluminum case, the E5xxx notebooks set on a plastic case. This results in a slightly bulky chassis, but affects the price of the notebook favorably, though.

MSI on the Fast Lane.It hasn't been all too long ago that we tested the Megabook GX60 from the renowned manufacturer Micro-Star International, better known under their abbreviation MSI. Review Asus N10E

Review Asus N10E

Asus N10E is one of the lastest additions to the broad range of Asus notebooks. It's an unusally well equipped mini-laptop and thus almost qualifies for a luxury netbook. Although one could simply call the N10E another Eee PC in a more splendid package, such a generalization is not justifiable, because it does not cope with many aspects, which are covered in detail in this article.

Comparative Review of the Intel Core 2 Quad Notebook CPUs

Comparative Review of the Intel Core 2 Quad Notebook CPUs

Two times two equals four. When Intel took its first step in the direction of dual core processors, one thing was clear - the footrace to each individual MHz that had existed up to this time would be superseded by the number of cores on a chip. The quad core CPUs are now the first step in this direction. After the desktop models, these are also available for notebooks.
