Heavy metal reloaded. The ProBook 6560 LG658EA is an entry level business device from Hewlett Packard in a robust aluminum case. In addition to its high-end looks, the installed hardware is also impressive: a dual core CPU from Intel's second generation processors, dedicated AMD graphics and a 15.6 inch matt display with a high resolution. Price: about 900 euros.

TestIT!2011, the third. The Japanese manufacturer, Toshiba, also takes part in the big notebook test 2011 with the Satellite L755-14P. Of course, Notebookcheck takes a closer look at this device, as well. Does the Toshiba Satellite L755-14P, an entry-level 15 incher, perhaps have the makings of a winner?

Here we go again. The question "dual- or quad-core CPU?" has been a fixture in our forums for quite a while. Those looking to play recent games on their laptops seem to be particularly concerned with this decision. So, we decided to resolve the issue by testing the gaming performance of five Sandy Bridge CPUs in one High End notebook.

Not for Sale? Currently, no shop in Germany is selling the new HP Pavilion dv6 in our test configuration, although both its price and hardware seem very interesting. The HD 6770M graphic chip of the notebook promises gaming power. In addition, the quad-core CPU and 8 GB RAM should deliver great performance. Still, is it worth the wait?

TestIT!2011, the second. Asus sends the X53E into the race for the Intel test campaign. The laptop, also equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor and its incorporated HD 3000 graphics unit, is supposed to especially stick out from the competition optically and haptically with a case made of aluminum parts.

Underestimated Expert. Small, mobile mass storage devices with convenient capacity lead a niche existence and disappear from the shelves by and by. We fetched one of the last representative of external 1.8" hard drives and scrutinized it.

Surround system. The new 18 inch flagship comes with the quad core processor, Intel Core i7-2630QM, and the Nvidia GeForce GT 555M graphics solution. Not only are the 16 GB RAM and the installed speedy SSD striking, but the touchpad as well. It can be removed and used as a remote control. The steep price for the notebook: 1699 euros.

AMD power? Asus is constantly increasing its Eee PC range. Now the Taiwanese company has also ventured a try basing its smallest series' member on AMD. The 10 inch netbook is available with the entry level APUs, AMD C-30 or C-50 including the incorporated AMD Radeon HD 6250 for the graphics unit (DirectX 11). Price: starts at 250 euros. Is the attempt worth it or should you continue to rely on Intel netbooks?

Down-to-earth. That's the best way to describe the new HP entry level business notebook. A new case design, solid construction, and up-to-date hardware, as well as a 15.6 inch display, are the most important prerequisites. A heart for gamers. The game machine expert, Schenker, has expanded its successful P range by a new graphics card. The 15 inch XMG P501 PRO is now available with Nvidia's fervently awaited GeForce GTX 560M. Read in this review if the notebook can live up to the slogan "Xtreme Mobile Gaming".

Super Starter. Samsung's Series 2 impresses with numerous useful office features. Next to the various ports, excellent keyboard, touchpad and good mobility, however, some serious weak points stand in the way of earning this laptop a rating of "Very Good".

Ultraportable budget ThinkPad. The 2011 ThinkPad X120e is the upgrade to last year’s ultra-mobile X100e and is marketed as one of the cheapest ThinkPads around. It is also the first Lenovo notebook to feature an AMD Fusion E-350 APU with integrated Radeon 6310 graphics. The empire strikes back. Asus' G-series attracted many mobile gamers in recent years. Professional Subnotebook. A small, but powerful notebook with a long battery life is the dream of many laptop lovers. Such enthusiasts would be obviously overjoyed at the mention of a new ThinkPad laptop with an amazing IPS display - sounds like the perfect companion for the road. We tested the ThinkPad X220 to see if this was true.

IceCool. Asus is trying to appeal to the mainstream with its new K53SV multimedia notebook. The 15 inch device should impress with its Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor, as well as the GeForce GT 540M graphics card from Nvidia. In addition to this the neat case also contains a Blu-ray drive.

An AMD C-50 APU, including the dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics, a 2 GB DDR3 RAM and a 320 GB hard disk capacity in a familiar case awaits us. The Eee-deal solution for 349 euros (RRP)?

Price breaker. While everyone is into slim line with aluminum looks, Fujitsu brings out a roundly 14 incher with a matt screen for use out in the sun. It is the cheapest Core i5 in 13 and 14 inches for starting at 549 euros.

"Top" designer. Lenovo supplies a 13 inch subnotebook with the latest second generation Intel Core processors with the IdeaPad Z370. In addition to the hardware, a lot of effort has especially been invested in looks. For example, the notebook has a display lid with 3D effect. Is it after all only straining after effect?

Smarter Business Laptop. With ThinkPad X1, Lenovo presents a compact business subnotebook with a 13.3" screen, current hardware and the familiar strengths that set it far apart from typical consumer notebooks. The glass pane covering the screen, on the other hand, is a step in the direction of consumer laptops.

Elegant powerhouse. The HP Elitebook 8560p-LQ589AW really stands out with its new and high-end platinum-style aluminium case. And then there’s the hardware: a second generation Core i5 processor, HD graphics from AMD and a large 15.6-inch matt display. The HP notebook costs around €1200 in this configuration. A real steal, given the current price of precious metal?

Inner values. A lot of power for little money is Lenovo's promise for its IdeaPad Y560P. The configuration sounds good: Intel's quad core processor, Core i7-2630QM, and AMD's Radeon HD 6570M as the graphics card are installed for a price of only 900 euros. This review will shed light on the notebook's true capabilities and if there maybe is a hitch.

Low cost expert. Light, long battery life, and well put together. With the low end version of the Portégé R830 from Toshiba premium business is now affordable. The question is whether the claims of an ideal picture quality are also true?

Pragmatic. An office machine or a chunk of plastic? The Satellite Pro fuses consumer graphics with Core i5 power and an 8 GB RAM. A matt, manageable WXGA++ screen tops it off. Is it the perfect combination of entertainment and work?

First-class in every way. Tired of having a typical desktop PC sitting on your desk? Want a replacement which offers great performance? The new Alienware M18x fits the bill. This 18 inch model is not only visually impressive, it also packs the latest hardware under its hood. The perfect replacement for the everyday desktop PC?

Switch it, baby! AMD is finally stepping up against Nvidia's well-established Optimus technology and throwing a counterpunch in the form of the PowerXPress 4.0. The first notebooks to showcase this new dynamic switchable graphics technology are already available. Can Nvidia maintain control of this niche or will AMD prove itself a force to be reckoned with?

Family gathering. Now the last of the new Vostro notebooks, the Vostro 3450, also comes to us. The compact notebook is at the start with a 14 inch screen and AMD's new switchable graphics.

The good years are past. Dell has put its XPS range on a diet and re-places the result as the XPS z-series. You wouldn't quite believe that it is a successor of the exclusive Adamo, which was considered to be an opponent of the MacBook Air at the time. Be that as it may, connoisseurs of good design will nevertheless be satisfied.

Last summoning. When an Athlon is found in a laptop, it can only be an low-cost entry device. Find out in this review why it's still good enough for a "good" despite weak performance and poor TFT.

Premiere. The M14x is Alienwares first 14 inch gaming laptop. A quad-core CPU and GeForce GT 555M make the notebook unique, as this kind of hardware is usually only found in larger models, such as the Schenker XMG A501 or the Dell XPS 17. The M14x - another revolutionary model?

Off Topic. Recently, a lot of readers have requested reviews of Smartphones. So here we are with our first in-depth review of a Smartphone, to be specific: the Samsung Google Nexus S. We tested two versions of this "Google Mobile“: the Nexus S I9023 with Super Clear LCD and the more expensive Nexus S I9020 with the much-cited Super AMOLED LCD.

Communicative. In its press release about the Tecra R850-11P, Toshiba paints its latest creation for the business sector as a paragon of mobility and high-performance. The Japanese manufacturer is setting the bar pretty high for itself; we put the notebook to the test in our review.

Small Flaw, Big Effect. Acer has come out the with the new generation of Aspire TimelineX notebooks and the series wouldn't be complete without a 13.3" subnotebook. Speedy hardware, a classy design and a long battery life all sound pretty good. But how does the CPU throttling issue affect this compact laptop's actual performance?

Medium or well-done? Dell also wants a part of the tablet market with the 7 inch tablet. The Streak is based on the Android 2.2 operating system and is driven by a Tegra dual core processor clocked with 1 GHz. Is Dell's Streak just raw meat or well-done?

Mobility. The smallest device of Dell's Vostro refresh, the Dell Vostro 3350, has come in for review. Thanks to a big 8 cell battery, an illuminated keyboard and the latest hardware from Intel and AMD hardware, the mite with a 13.3 inch screen doesn't have any reason to hide.

Honeycomb Alternative! Acer's tablet presence has so far been fairly restrained, but is beginning to gain more and more traction with every new model. The Iconia Tab A500 offers an Nvidia Tegra 250 multi-core CPU/GPU, 32 GB of memory, a high resolution WXGA display, and the brand new Android 3.0 operating system. What can be expected from the slim 500 Euro device was tested by us.

ThinkPad-Discounter. A real ThinkPad available for less than 600 Euros? Lenovo's low-cost ThinkPad L520 makes it possible. Included are good input devices and a Docking Port. Perfect business style in a casual black?

Cool behemoth. The K73 is an affordable media all-rounder that is even suitable for a bit of showing off with its polished aluminum and handy feel. Find out what the expensive N series' little brother pull out of its hat. Gaming graphics and two HDDs are a good start.

Androidbook. With the Eee Tab TF101, Asus hopes reap the benefits of both notebooks and tablets. The concept of an Android tablet with an optional keyboard dock to transform it into a laptop has been around since at least the last Cebit trade fair. But now we take a closer look at one of these fully-functional transformers.

Acoustic mobile pleasure. The Austrian premium audio supplier, AKG, introduces the K 830 BT as a mobile headset with wireless Bluetooth transmission. A powerful sound, laterally placed controls and a low weight let the headphone excel. However, this solution isn't exactly cheap with 179 euros (RRP).

Downgrade. The sound machine, Asus N73JQ, impressed in November 210 with high-end workmanship, exclusive materials and a Full HD screen. The predecessor no longer has a quad core, dual HDD and Full HD. In return, the price has been reduced.

Premium? A long time rumors about the succession of the slim Adamo series flew thick and fast. Now, we know the official answer: Adamo turns into Dell XPS -z. The 15-inch model of the new slim aluminium laptops is already under review. Here are the first results.

A Breath of Perfection. The Schenker XMG A501 may look plain, but it has great aspirations: taking the best attributes notebooks have to offer, integrating them into a single laptop, and creating the perfect all-round laptop. The matt display and Optimus graphics switching technology promise great mobility, and the integrated Nvidia GeForce GT 555M is sure to excite gamers. Does the competition stand a chance?

Little multi-talent. The Taiwanese company, Asus, now has a subnotebook with a 13.3 inch screen and the latest hardware available in the U30SD. The combination of Intel's Core i5-2410M, the dedicated Nvidia GGT 520M and not least the big battery awake hopes of a mobile entertainer.

The perfect wave? The successor of the S8500, the Wave II GT-S8530, has been available since the beginning of the year. However, there aren't many novelties apart from a larger display and an upgraded operating system. Is that enough to meet the high expectations set by the predecessor?

Colorful. Dell is upgrading its Inspiron range. Besides the latest processor from the Sandy Bridge family, the notebook's look can be modified to suit personal preferences with help from a switch concept. Dell again provides a vast amount of different color combination and designs.

Tablet-book. A tablet that you can transform into a netbook without much ado is what Acer has created with the Iconia Tab W500. But not only the design causes a rage, the technical innards also attract attention with AMD's C-50 CPU and HD 6250 graphics chip. We checked the performance in comparison to the standard configuration of comparable netbooks and tablets.

Brilliant performance? With the ThinkPad Edge E420s, Lenovo now has a slim notebook available that is supposed to be especially designed for SMEs. The latest hardware fused with ThinkPad qualities makes you want more. However, the high-gloss display steps out of line.

Takin' Care of Business. Lenovo ThinkPads of the W series are pure-bred professional laptops that have earned a reputation for powerful performance, above all in the area of graphics and computation-intensive office tasks. The ThinkPad W520 is the most recent 15.6" model in the series and is said to reconcile tradition with technological progress, but is the ThinkPad W520 all it's cracked up to be?

Environmentally friendly typing. Green IT is currently all the rage. Can the Logitech's Wireless Keyboard Solar K750 contribute to this? We've tested that out and taken a closer look at the wireless solar-powered keyboard.

Blue-eyed? Acer launches a new, handy 14 inch notebook from the TimelineX range called Aspire 4830TG. The notebook, dressed in ice blue is suitable for routine work in the office, at home and on the move. It bids a lot of power thanks to the GT 540M graphics and Intel i5 CPU when it's needed. However, not always, as the following review will show.

Summer Breeze.The Acer Aspire TimelineX series is getting new hardware and a fresh new look. The 5830TG laptop, with a 15.6 inch display, is the spearhead of the new lineup. Thanks to its Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics chip, the laptop can also satisfy gamers. Does this mean that Acer has learnt from its mistakes and is ushering in a generation of new, improved notebooks?

Brilliant! The Medion Akoya P6631 has a shiny case if there ever was one! Just about all the case surfaces consist of glossy plastic. Graphics update. The Taiwanese company Asus sends a familiar multimedia laptop with the new GT 550M graphics from Nvidia and Intel's Core i7-2630QM called N53SN-SX091V (X5MSN) into the race. We've checked the all-rounder's qualities, which is now available for 1299 euros (RRP).

Mini-Rocket. External storage devices intended for real mobile use should offer some important features to shed the typical niche existence. Small, light, fast, robust, and capacious are demands a potential reference should meet. We checked how close the small 1.8" Portable SSD from Transcend comes to these design parameters.

Allrounder? The MSI CX640 is aimed at the multimedia notebook market, with its 15.6-inch display, new Intel Core i5-2410M, dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 520M GPU and Optimus graphics switching. We take a detailed look at the newcomer from Taiwan and weigh up its good and bad qualities.

Hot blooded dandy. Dell has quite a few plans for its XPS 17 refresh. In addition to one of the latest Sandy Bridge processors and a strong DirectX 11 graphics card, the 17 incher optionally has a 3D capable 120 Hz screen. Has Mission Entertainment been successful?

Docked. Sony is equipping its new Vaio SA- and SB-series with docking stations and battery slices. The battery life is going to double, and the annoying plugging in of power cables will be a thing of the past.

3D Vaio. Sony Vaio's leap into the 3D world gives reason for excitement thanks to F21's perfect full-HD display and its undimmed 3D picture. The level of craftsmanship and choice of materials used for the case don't quite meet the demands of the premium sector, however.

Price fighter. The ViewPad 10s has a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen and the dual core processor, Tegra 250, from nVIDIA. With that, it should provide up to 16 hours of mains independence. Google Android 2.2 is pre-installed as the operating system on the ViewPad 10s.

Parallels Desktop 6, VMware Fusion 3.1 and VirtualBox 4 in comparison Many Mac users will be familiar with the situation that there is a program from time to time that unfortunately only runs on Windows.
