RedMagic has kicked off July by revealing global availability for its latest Android gaming tablet. Teased in mid-June, the RedMagic Astra is the global version of the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro that RedMagic has been selling in China for a few weeks. As expected, RedMagic's release process is a rather convoluted one with what the company describes as three 'availability milestones'.
To recap, the RedMagic Astra features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset that the company uses in its current flagship smartphones like the RedMagic 10 Pro (curr. $704 on Amazon). However, the Astra features a 9.06-inch and 2.4K OLED display that also offers a 165 Hz refresh rate. On top of that, RedMagic has included an 8,200 mAh battery that supports fast charging, LPDDR5T RAM, UFS 4.1 Pro storage and a turbofan that spins at up to 20,000 RPM.
First up, RedMagic will allow people to purchase an Early Bird voucher from July 10 until July 15 at 12:00 UTC. Available for $1, this voucher will grant a $30 discount, an 80 W charger and gaming finger sleeves when pre-ordering the RedMagic Astra on July 15. Please note that this Early Bird access period will only be around for 24 hours until 12:00 UTC on July 16, after which RedMagic will offer the Astra on an open-sale basis.
The RedMagic Astra will start at $549 in Eclipse and Starfrost colour options with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, both colours will be sold with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for a $150 surcharge totalling $699. For some reason, RedMagic will be restricting the tablet's 24 GB RAM and 1 TB of storage configuration to its Eclipse colour option. The jump to this memory combination takes the tablet's purchase price to $899, too. Please see RedMagic's website for more details and the table below for regional pricing information.
