Provenance, another multi-system emulator built for iOS, is supposedly coming to the official App Store soon. It follows on the heels of the Delta emulator, which has already topped the App Store's Entertainment category.

Following the initial success of Delta, a multi-system emulator that recently released on the official iOS App Store, another multi-system emulator may soon hit the App Store.

Provenance, which emulates several different retro consoles, will soon launch on the App Store, according to an exclusive reveal from iMore. Citing an email sent by the leading developer of Provenance, Joseph Mattiello, iMore claims that the Provenance team is "working on a release" but needs to make sure things are kosher with Apple's new rules concerning emulators.

Provenance operates similarly to Delta in that it emulates several retro consoles. However, Provenance can emulate many more consoles. In addition to Delta's library of Nintendo consoles (which includes the NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, and N64), Provenance can also emulate the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, WonderSwan Color, TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine in other regions), Sega SG-1000, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, and Sony PlayStation. It can also emulate a variety of handhelds, including the Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket Color, among others.

Provenance includes many of the same quality of life features as Delta, including support for save states, cheats, and cover art scraping. It also offers external controller support, so iOS gamepads like the Backbone One (currently available on Amazon for $99.99) work out of the box.

The team has also stated that the app is under active development, and they hope to bring new systems including emulators for the Sega Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 2, and more soon.

Of course, this is currently a claim from one source, so it should be taken with a grain salt. However, considering the influx of emulators to the App Store (both legitimate and not), it's likely Provenance will make its official debut soon. Provenance is currently available via AltStore, which acts as an unofficial third-party app store for iOS.
