Phosgo introduces solar e-bike with impressive 120 miles of range

An emerging electric bike brand, Phosgo has officially introduced its all-new solar e-bike, the Go 5 Ultra. It is advertised as the world’s first mass-produced solar electric bike, which weighs around 81 lbs (36 kg). The company has integrated high-efficiency solar cells directly into the wheel rims of the Go 5 Ultra e-bike. According to the company, this further eliminates the need for traditional charging while ensuring a sustainable and effortless riding experience.
At the heart of the Go 5 Ultra is the Bafang 750 W mid-drive motor, which is said to deliver 150 Nm of torque, 910 W peak power, and up to 28 mph (45 km/h) top speed. Plus, it offers five pedal-assist modes. Keep in mind that the EU model is tuned to local pedelec regulations, meaning you get less power and speed compared to the US model.
Speaking more precisely, the Go 5 Ultra EU model features a Bafang M430 250 W motor, which delivers 120 Nm of torque and a top speed capped at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). As for the battery, the Go 5 Ultra features a large 720 Wh battery, which is said to deliver up to 120 miles (193 km) of range with solar.
The rest of the highlights include an anti-theft alarm, fall detection, remote locking, companion app support, an AI-enabled voice assistant, dual charging modes, an MPPT controller, GPS, 4G, and Bluetooth support for real-time connectivity.
Alongside, the company has also teased the slightly inferior Go 5 solar-electric bike. The EU model of the e-bike features a Bafang 250 W motor, while the US model ships with a 500 W Bafang motor, delivering 120 Nm and 140 Nm of torque, respectively. As for the battery, both come with a 480 Wh battery, and the company claims that both variants offer up to 60 miles (95 km) of range with solar power.
The Phosgo Go 5 Ultra and the Go 5 have an MSRP of $5,999 and $4,999, respectively. Interestingly, the company is offering a massive 63% discount for those who reserve the e-bike for $50, bringing the price down from $5,999 to $2,199. Buyers can now reserve the e-bike directly from Phosgo’s official website. The solar e-bike is expected to launch on 27th July.
