Oura has been working on smart AR glasses with smart ring controls

In a recently published patent with patent number 20260023426, Oura illustrates how multiple wearables could interact with one another. In doing so, the manufacturer clearly refers to the combination of a smart ring and glasses. This is not a groundbreaking new technology. Specifically, the manufacturer describes how the heart rate measured by a smart ring could be displayed in real time on smart glasses. This could be useful for adjusting the intensity of a workout, for example. The display could also be controlled via hand gestures thanks to the connected smart ring.
XR applications are also listed and may refer to augmented reality, mixed reality, and virtual reality. This could involve virtual overlays with objects in the real world, although in practice these terms are not always used accurately. To put it simply, showing the heart rate is already an extension of reality, but not necessarily the same as visual overlays with the real world, such as translations of a menu in a restaurant.
For now, this is only a patent. It indicates that Oura was working on this kind of technology at least through mid-2025. As usual, it’s unclear if this concept and patent will actually turn into a purchasable product in the future.
