Oura patents smart ring with interchangeable battery

Smart rings such as the Oura Ring 4 ($349 on Amazon) are almost impossible to repair. This is not only annoying in the event of a defect, but also limits the service life of a ring, as the battery inevitably ages over the years and at some point no longer provides a usable battery life. The engineers at Oura have now developed a solution to this problem and patented a design at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that is equipped with a modular battery.
As the illustrations show, the battery is located in one half of the ring. The outer part, in which the battery is located, can be easily removed and replaced if necessary. Both the battery module and the ring contain small magnets that hold the battery in place. Metal contacts allow the current to be transmitted from the battery to the ring, so that users do not have to fiddle with tiny plugs to replace the battery.
It is currently not known when or if Oura will actually launch a smart ring with replaceable battery. The first leaked render images of the Oura Ring 5 do not indicate that this design will be implemented in the manufacturer's next generation of rings. Compared to the Oura Ring 4, a modular battery would definitely be a major improvement, as Oura currently disposes of a ring and replaces it with a new one when the battery is defective.
