Oppo Find X9 Ultra: Faster camera than Vivo X300 Ultra and best 3x telephoto

The matchup between the Vivo X300 Ultra as a 35 mm camera flagship with a focus on video and the best ultra-wide camera, and the Oppo Find X9 Ultra as a 10x telephoto champion, is shaping up to be one of the most interesting of the year. The Zeiss camera flagship, launching in China on March 30 and expected to arrive in Europe soon after, offers the longest zoom of any smartphone thanks to a new 400 mm telephoto extender. However, this requires an external optical attachment. Oppo, on the other hand, appears to offer integrated 10x optical zoom at what seems to be quite solid quality.
However, Oppo is also aiming to make things difficult for competitors with its 3x telephoto, as leakers have been emphasizing for weeks. Oppo executive Zhuo Shijie has now confirmed some details on Weibo about the current largest 200 MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, including an aperture of f/2.2. This means Oppo offers a larger sensor than Vivo in the X300 Ultra along with a brighter optical system, albeit at an equivalent focal length of 70 mm instead of 85 mm as on Vivo. Zhuo noted that light sensitivity will be 136 percent higher than the 3x telephoto on the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, and even at 6x zoom it can capture 23 percent more light than the dedicated 6x telephoto of the previous model.
The main camera is also briefly mentioned, which is expected to use the same Sony LYT-901 200 MP sensor as in the Vivo X300 Ultra. According to Oppo, thanks to a larger aperture it should capture more light than the 1-inch sensor in the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, even though the sensor size shrinks slightly to 1/1.12 inch. While Vivo’s 35 mm main camera only offers an f/1.85 aperture, the 23 mm lens on the Oppo Find X9 Ultra is said to feature f/1.5. However, this information does not come directly from Oppo but from Digital Chat Station, who also recently shared a few additional details. Both Oppo and Digital Chat Station also mention a brighter 14 mm ultra-wide camera, although Vivo is likely to have the advantage here due to its larger sensor.
