Oppo is currently thought to spearhead the 2025 compact smartphone trend with a device that will be called the Find X8S on its launch (because Chinese OEMs don't "like" the term Mini, apparently). It might not be the only member of its new sub-series, however.
It is said to launch as the Find X8S Plus or X8S+ in its latest leak, rather than the 'standard' X8S as suspected earlier.
As with the iPhone 16 Plus, the putative name implies that it might be the 'old normal' alternative to its sibling with a display of a more conventional size, albeit one not likely to exceed that of the pre-existing Find X8 Pro at 6.78 inches.
Both X8S variants are tipped to run on the Dimensity 9400+, slated to launch very soon as MediaTek's next flagship SoC.
Size notwithstanding, the X8S is backed to have all the advantages of any other modern Oppo flagship smartphone, a periscope zoom lens, an IP68/69 rating and wireless charging included - not to mention the same 80W SuperVOOC wired charging as the Pro.
It is believed to have made it onto the 3C regulatory database with the model number PKT110 and the VCB80ACH power brick necessary for that relatively speedy technology.
The X8S might debut by April 2025, although it might soon be joined by others in its weight class such as the OnePlus 13T, with the same Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC (and battery) as its 'full-sized' 13 counterpart.
Of course, both smartphones will have to face the established presence of the similarly-sized Samsung Galaxy S25 (currently starting at $759.99 on Amazon) and Xiaomi 15 whenever they do make it to the market.
