OnePlus FPS-focused gaming handheld could be in the works

With gaming handheld popularity at an all-time high, a smartphone manufacturer is reportedly working on a handheld that will run on Android. Rumors suggest that OnePlus will release a gaming handheld that will be different from the typical Android based devices that we’ve seen in terms of the controls. Not a lot is known about the device but preliminary information from a known leaker sheds light on some aspects of the device.
The information comes from Digital Chat Station over on Weibo. The leaker claims that a smartphone manufacturer is confirmed to be working on a “Android handheld console.” While the post does not mention which manufacturer, fans and the community are confident it is OnePlus. The device is being specifically designed for FPS games like Delta Force and PUBG Mobile. Being an Android-based device, it will feature multi-finger tough and a high refresh rate display. Flagship performance has also been touted.
That’s about all the information shared by Digital Chat Station. However, the OnePlus Club account on X has shared an image of what the OnePlus handheld could look like, based on the leaks. It doesn’t have the typical assortment of buttons, but what look like recessed joysticks and two large buttons below them. The bumpers can be seen in the photo as well, and it’s safe to assume that there will be triggers on this device.
In terms of ergonomics, it seems to have the ROG Ally X form factor but with somewhat more ergonomic grips. Of course, this is an unofficial render of the rumored device, so it’s hard to say what the final device will end up looking like, if it ever comes out. The company is going to launch its compact powerhouse, the OnePlus 15T, soon, and it's well versed in efficiently packing a lot of power in a small form factor.
