The OnePlus 12R is projected to debut as a secondary variant for the OEM's upcoming flagship smartphone on the global market in 2024 - but not before it does so as the Ace 3 in China. It is now officially slated to debut with one of the brand's most innovative, distinctive finish options to date.

The Ace 3 is now widely projected to launch as a variation on the top-end 12, albeit one with a 1.5K display, a previous-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and no flagship-grade Hasselblad-branded rear cameras.

It is also now tipped to diverge from the 12 with very different color options: Star Black, Moon Sea Blue and Mingsha Gold, one of which has just been officially endorsed by OnePlus as a real Ace 3 finish option.

Despite its name, Mingsha Gold might strike some observers as much more bronze on screen, and that is far from the most unusual thing about it. OnePlus claims to have developed a "brand-new" production process for it that makes its rear glass panel look (and possibly feel) much more like metal.

An Ace 3 in its new "earth-inspired" finish is also now backed "to interpret the art of light and shadow to the extreme", and to be joined by 2 more "sky-" and "ocean-" themed options on its early 2024 debut. However, there is no guarantee that any of them will be retained should the third-gen Ace rebrand as an 11R successor for its global debut.
