Official: New QD-OLED Penta Tandem monitors launching globally in 2026

Samsung Display has now formalised the branding of the Electroluminescent Layer Gen 3.0 (EL 3.0) and five-stack OLED structure technologies that underpin recent QD-OLED monitor releases. For reference, these were colloquially referred to as Gen 4 QD-OLED monitors. Although not official branding, Samsung Display and its partners continue to market monitors like the ROG Strix OLED XG32UQDMS as leveraging '3rd Gen' or 'Gen 3' QD-OLED technology.
Meanwhile, LG Display has adopted 'Tandem OLED' branding for its latest WOLED panels. In response, Samsung Display has announced 'QD-OLED Penta Tandem', with penta referring to the three blue and two green emitting layers found in recent gaming monitor releases like the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM3 and the MSI MPG 272URX (curr. $899 on Amazon). The full list of existing QD-OLED Penta Tandem-backed monitors is as follows:
At the same time, Samsung Display has confirmed that a new QD-OLED Penta Tandem segment is coming later this year too. Specifically, the company has outlined that a 49-inch variant is on the horizon. At this stage, it remains to be seen which monitor manufacturers will adopt this 49-inch panel. So far, Samsung Display has confirmed that this larger QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel will output at 5,120 x 1,440 pixels, which is also known as Dual QHD or DQHD. Samsung Display is likely to complement this resolution with a 240 Hz or 360 Hz refresh rate.
