New Citizen automatic watch launches with open caseback and Caliber 8210

Citizen Hong Kong just introduced the NJ0243-06A - it's a new entry-level automatic watch that has a classic dress style. The model is now listed with a price of HK$2,280, which roughly translates to $291. That places it on the more affordable side of the brand’s mechanical lineup.
The watch uses Citizen’s in-house Caliber 8210 automatic movement. It’s a basic, time-and-date setup with no radio or smart features, keeping things as straightforward as it gets. The movement is visible through an exhibition caseback, which is still neat at this price point.
Case size comes in at 40 mm with a thickness of 11.6 mm, and the watch weighs 62 grams. The case itself is stainless steel with a gold-tone finish, paired with a brown leather strap. Water resistance is rated at 5 bar, which is more than enough for everyday use but not for swimming.
The dial itself follows a traditional layout with a champagne-gold finish. Applied indices are used for most hour markers, while Roman numerals appear at 12 and 6. A small date window sits at 3 o’clock. The overall design is very basic with slim hands and minimal text, and not in a bad way.
There are no special complications or technical features here, and that seems intentional. The NJ0243-06A is built as a simple mechanical option for buyers who want an automatic watch without going into higher price brackets.
Regardless, at this price, the presence of an in-house movement and exhibition back adds a fair amount of value, though the rest of the package is fairly standard. You can also check out the Citizen BM6838-09X on Amazon.
