Citizen launches limited-edition titanium watches with striking dials and a new Eco-Drive Caliber

Citizen is launching its new Eco-Drive Photon series to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its popular light-powered tech. The launch includes two limited-edition models - BJ6560-53W and BJ6569-59X - both designed around a new striking dial concept that plays on light interaction and depth.
The watches use a Super Titanium case measuring 39.6 mm in diameter and 9.9 mm thick. Citizen applies its Duratect coating here, with the BJ6560-53W finished in a standard titanium carbide treatment, while the BJ6569-59X gets a two-tone look using Duratect Amber yellow alongside DLC. Both models come with integrated titanium bracelets and sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating. Water resistance is rated at 5 bar.
The heart of this new launch is the new multilayer dial. Citizen uses two slitted metal layers stacked over each other, which creates an interference-like pattern. Beneath that sits a structural color film placed above the solar cell. As light passes through the slits, the dial produces changing colors depending on the viewing angle. What you'll get is a visibly 3D effect that changes in real time.
Powering the watches is the Eco-Drive caliber E036. This is a new solar quartz movement rated at ±15 seconds per month, with a full-charge runtime of up to one year in power-save mode. Citizen also states that there's increased torque in this setup, which lets them use larger hands without really affecting performance.
Each model is limited to 5,000 units worldwide and is scheduled for release in the Autumn/Winter 2026 window. The casebacks are engraved with "50 Eco-Drive Innovation" text, alongside the serial number. They are both delivered in special presentation packaging.
Drawing inspiration from concepts like light interference and the double-slit experiment to celebrate tech based solely around light is definitely an interesting choice. Pricing for these timepieces hasn't been announced as of writing.
