It seems that LG Display has another 39-inch OLED panel up its sleeve. For context, LG released the UltraGear OLED 39GS95QE (curr. $1,196.99 on Amazon) in March with a 1440p resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the same panel will soon be available from ASUS as the ROG Swift OLED PG39WCDM, albeit not until this summer.
Nonetheless, LG Display showcased an alternative during SID Display Week 2024 in San Jose, which ran between May 14 and May 16. In a press release, the company described the panel in the following terms:
...the company is showcasing a 39-inch Ultra-Wide Gaming OLED panel. Its 21:9 ratio screen with a curvature of 800R (about the curvature of a circle with a radius of 800mm) maximizes immersion by providing the same viewing distance from both the centre and edges of the screen.
By that description, it would appear that LG Display exhibited the same 39-inch panel that underpins the ROG Swift OLED PG39WCDM and UltraGear OLED 39GS95QE. However, the term 'META Technology 2.0' can be made out on the image reproduced by Display Daily, which we have embedded below. According to LG, META 2.0 delivers 'a groundbreaking improvement in brightness of around 42%' for up to a 3,000-nit peak. Unfortunately, other details remain unknown for now. With that being said, it appears that the first examples of LG's forthcoming 1440p and 480 Hz OLED panel may not be ready until autumn 2024 at the earliest.
