Naughty Dog is a household name in the story driven single player space, with heavy hitters such as the Uncharted and Last of Us series both of which have been turned into major films and TV series.
With the rumour mill in overdrive for the last few months, the internet has been speculating what Naughty Dog's latest new game will be, and in a recent post to the PlayStation Blog, Head of Naughty Dog Studios Neil Druckman took the wrapping off their latest IP, presenting Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Details are light at the moment, but the game has been in development since 2020 and seems to be a story driven space epic, with everything from space Porches, to light swords and ninja killer robots. The story is under wraps for now, but Druckman promises to follow the Naughty Dog tradition of delivering an "emotional, character-driven epic journey", with the "deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog's history".
The trailer gives off a somewhat 80s vibe, framed by the Pet Shop Boys "Actually", where we are introduced to the protagonist "Jordan A Mun" - a bounty hunter who ends up stranded on a distant planet where people have a nasty habit of disappearing. The trailer suggests this will be a "mature" game, holding out hope that this will be a game aimed squarely at a grown up audience.
There is no mention of any PC release, suggesting this will be a PS5 exclusive for the time being. Though, if Sony continues the welcome tradition of releasing older games on PC, those without a PlayStation 5 might get the chance to play it eventually.
If you can't wait that long, the PlayStation 5 is currently seeing a $75 discount on BestBuy, but as there isn't a release window yet, you've probably got time to wait for a better deal. Nevertheless, fans of Naughty Dog will be waiting with bated breath for the next round of updates. Let's just hope that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet doesn't need another 5 years of development time to reach audiences.
