Lenovo may soon launch a refresh of the Legion Go with an upgraded display and revised detachable controllers. The specs of the new gaming handheld are unknown but there's a chance it might launch alongside the Legion Go S.

The Legion Go has been on store shelves for a year now, and while Lenovo is planning to launch a cheaper model called the Legion Go S, a leak has revealed the original Windows handheld may be getting a refresh, in a fashion similar to what Nintendo did with the Switch.

The info comes from Evan Blass who provided images of the upcoming Legion Go S on X. However, this time, he has shared the images of the new Legion Go exclusively with The Verge. According to the source, the new Legion Go will retain the overall design of the current model. It will have detachable controllers and also an FPS mode that allows one of the controllers to double as a vertical mouse.

However, the controllers are not the same as those of the 2023 model. The new controllers have a curve to them that should make them more comfortable to hold. The D-pad has also been redesigned while there are two extra buttons above the Legion L and Legion R buttons.

What is the biggest change is the display, at least according to the filenames of the images. Unlike the original Legion Go (curr. available for $499 on Amazon) which has an IPS LCD panel, the new Legion Go will have an OLED panel, albeit with the same 8.8-inch screen size. It's not exactly what Nintendo did with the original Switch and Switch OLED, as the latter has a larger display.

Nevertheless, the switch from LCD to OLED for the screen is a big upgrade. The OLED display should bring more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, and better contrast. Unfortunately, there are no technical details yet, so it is not known if there are other changes under the hood such as a new processor or a bigger battery.

The new Legion Go will most likely launch alongside the Legion Go S. However, it is not known if Lenovo will discontinue the older model when this OLED version arrives or sell both models concurrently.
