It seems that the Steam Deck may soon have a rival in the form of a new Legion Go running SteamOS. Based on recent evidence, the Legion Go S will combine an 8-inch and 1200p display with an AMD Ryzen Z2 GO chipset to serve as more powerful alternative to the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED.

Yesterday, Evan Blass shared new images of the Legion Go S, which is widely believed Lenovo's next gaming handheld after last year's Legion Go. Additionally, the leaker provided a first look at the Legion Glasses 2. It turns out that Blass may have also revealed that something more unusual is afoot.

At first glance, it looked as though Blass had showcased the Legion Go S in a second colourway for the first time. Unfortunately, fine details were difficult to make out. By contrast, Blass shared higher-quality versions of the same images shared with The Verge, in which what appears to be a dedicated Steam button can be seen.

By contrast, its white counterpart has a shortcut for triggering Lenovo's Legion Space software, just like the original Legion Go (curr. $499.99 on Amazon). Consequently, the likes of The Verge and VideoCardz have inferred that this dark grey model will run a version of SteamOS by default, not Windows.

Ultimately, no concrete information has emerged yet to back up this inference. With that being said, Valve it looks like Valve is edging closer to officially supporting the ROG Ally with a version of SteamOS. In other words, it is not out of the real of possibility that this software support will be extended to other Windows gaming handheld manufacturers too, including Lenovo. However, there was no suggestion that there would be dedicated SteamOS alternatives to the Steam Deck on the horizon.
