Lenovo confirms August 25 launch for its new C700 cloud handheld

Lenovo has confirmed that its Legion C700 handheld will launch in China on August 25. Unlike most Windows gaming handhelds, which try to run games locally, the Legion C700 is built around cloud gaming and streaming, which Lenovo says lets it stay thinner and lighter than typical handhelds on the market.

Lenovo's teasers say the C700 works with Tencent START cloud gaming, with titles such as Black Myth: Wukong reaching up to 60 FPS and end-to-end round-trip latency under 10ms. The device also runs Lenovo's own streaming software, which the company says includes deep optimizations aimed at making cloud play feel closer to running games on a standard gaming platform.

The handheld weighs about 556 grams and measures 14.9mm thick, built around a 7.82-inch, 120Hz IPS LCD screen. Lenovo says the design is nearly 300 grams lighter than a typical Windows handheld. Controls include TMR sensor joysticks designed to resist drift, Hall-effect linear triggers, an omnidirectional D-pad, two back buttons, and two shoulder buttons, all of which can be remapped.

Lenovo's streaming software includes one-click streaming along with offline and high-speed streaming modes, plus a management center for real-time performance monitoring and quick access to controller settings, fan speed, and screen options. A separate performance widget allows on-the-fly adjustment of stick sensitivity, button mapping, and game modes.

Lenovo first teased the Legion C700 sometime last month, later confirming an 8,000mAh battery that the company says offers up to 9 hours of runtime on a full charge, a figure likely based on cloud streaming rather than locally run games. Full pricing, processor details, and the rest of the specifications are expected to be announced at the August 25 launch event.
