Lenovo has started selling the ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 in the US. Succeeding the Arrow Lake-powered Gen 8, it brings newer Intel Panther Lake processors with vPro support. Pricing starts at $4,109 with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 GPU and 64GB of LPCAMM2 RAM.

Lenovo has finally released the ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 in the US, succeeding the Gen 8 model we reviewed earlier this year. Pricing still looks like the main sticking point, with the laptop starting at a steep $6,699 before discounts. Compared with its predecessor, the new model brings newer Intel Panther Lake processors and a choice of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of VRAM.

The ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 was announced back in March, and Lenovo has since released the new 16-inch laptop in Australia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Buyers in the US can now purchase it directly from Lenovo, with a 38% early discount currently applied to both configurations.

The Gen 9 model has a similar design to its predecessor.
It comes with a backlit keyboard with fingerprint reader, but no numpad.

Following our launch coverage, the ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 was expected to offer up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H. However, Lenovo currently lists only two preconfigured models in the US, both featuring the 16-core Intel Core Ultra 7 366H with vPro support.

The base model pairs the processor with an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of VRAM, 64GB of LPCAMM2-8533 memory, and a 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD. Users also get an IPS display with a 3840 x 2400 resolution, 800 nits of peak brightness, and a 60Hz refresh rate. Alternatively, the upgraded configuration swaps in an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of VRAM and a much brighter tandem OLED touchscreen. Specifically, the display reaches up to 1,500 nits and supports a 40–120Hz variable refresh rate.

When we reviewed the older ThinkPad T1g Gen 8, we called it a worthy successor to the ThinkPad X1 Extreme. The newer Intel processors and RTX 5070 GPU with double the VRAM (8GB vs. 16GB) should give the Gen 9 a performance advantage, though we will have to test it to see how substantial the improvement is. Other highlights include a 5MP webcam with a privacy shutter, a backlit keyboard with a fingerprint reader, and Wi-Fi 7 support. It also offers a wide selection of ports, including Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, and 10Gbps USB-A.

The ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 is currently available in the US for $4,109 with RTX 5060 graphics, while the RTX 5070 configuration costs $4,469 following the 38% discount.
