Although the holidays are just around the corner, many shoppers are probably still in the hunt for a new laptop that can get the work done. Lenovo's business laptops are often a popular choice for this use case, and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is one of the more expensive devices in this class that only becomes a suitable choice after steep discounts.
That's exactly what the New York City-based retailer B&H Photo Video has in store these days, as the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U and 16GB of LPDDR5x memory has been discounted to $1,099 including free shipping. This constitutes a considerable price cut of $1,000 or almost 50% in comparison to the quoted list price of $2,099. Lenovo itself is no longer selling the 2024 flagship model, but for comparison, the latest Gen 13 currently costs at least $1,870 at the company's official online store.
We thoroughly reviewed the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, but our test unit was equipped with the sharper and more vivid OLED panel. The configuration that's on sale here sports the base IPS panel with 1920 x 1200 pixels, 400 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB coverage. That being said, we liked the redesigned lightweight chassis and improved battery life, both of which apply to this model variant as well.
On the other hand, prospective buyers will have to live with a quite underwhelming webcam and WiFi 6E instead of the latest WiFi 7 standard. These caveats don't change the fact that the X1 Carbon is a well-rounded 14-inch laptop, which is why this might be an intriguing Black Friday deal for ThinkPad fans and other users who are looking for an upgrade.
