We have already praised Lenovo a couple of times this year for the excellent screen quality in their consumer and gaming laptops, but the situation is unfortunately not the same for the business segment. We just reviewed the current ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 AMD, where Lenovo only offers Full-HD screens with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Sure, business laptops have different requirements compared to multimedia devices, for example, and the price plays a role as well, but Lenovo is rather inconsequential here as well. Even though the ThinkPad T-series is placed in the premium segment, there are much more affordable models (like the ThinkPad E-series), where you can get 120 Hz panels.
The default display option for the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 AMD is a 400-nit panel with low color gamut (45 % NTSC), which we cannot recommend. The optional 500-nit panel, which was also equipped on our review unit, offers good image quality overall with rich colors, full sRGB coverage and clear images (even bright surfaces are not grainy despite the matte surface). Our own calibration (the according profile is available for free in our review) also enables very accurate colors, so you can actually use it for picture editing. The LowPower display also does not use a lot of energy, which also helps to achieve the impressive runtimes in our Wi-Fi test (17 hours at 150 nits and 10.5 hours at max. brightness). A 120 Hz panel would most certainly require more power.
Still, we think Lenovo should give customers the option to get a better panel. Lenovo definitely has access to very good OLED screens, but a higher-resolution matte IPS panel with a higher frequency would certainly be interesting for customers as well. This limitation affects both the AMD as well as the Intel version of the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4. Please see our comprehensive review of the large business laptop for more information.
