The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 16ACH might be the result of a combination of the trends towards 16:10 displays and AMD processors. The multimedia laptop stands out with its large, high-resolution 120 Hz LCD in a less wide format and with its fast Ryzen 5000H CPUs.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro is an incredible laptop for the price. It’s powerful with a great blend of a 5th gen Ryzen processor and GTX 1650 GPU. Battery life is also great for such a powerful machine, too. Just note it’s a little heavy and the ports are a tad lacklustre, but in the grand scheme of things, they’re small issues for such a marvellous machine.

Lenovo's 16-inch all-rounder delivers more than enough computing power for office and Internet applications. It also brings all modern computer games smoothly onto the 16:10 screen - at least in HD resolution. The Tiger Lake processor and GeForce MX450 GPU make this possible.

You could see the Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16 as a jack of all trades and master of none, but it’s smarter to look at it as a capable, high-value option that does just about everything well. I’m excited to see what Lenovo can do with more processing power, and potentially a faster GPU, but right now this is still a good laptop for the money, especially if you’re buying for business, family or study, but might fancy the odd game or two.

It’s tricky to pick the best-value option: while some of Lenovo’s rivals serve up faster CPUs and the RTX 3060 graphics core at similar prices, they’re often heavier, thicker and weaker than the IdeaPad. Indeed, the IdeaPad takes a different approach by delivering a chassis that’s slimmer, lighter and more mature than most of its contemporaries. It’s robust, it has decent connectivity, and its large display delivers superb quality. It’s quiet, too, and has decent battery life outside of games. It’s not all good news, though. The processor offers mid-range pace, but nothing more, and the graphics core can’t run top games at top settings. The keyboard is soft and the speakers aren’t great. Don’t write off the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro, though, it’s skills just lie in different areas than others and makes a better choice for those that want a more portable device that’s also nicely suited to work as well as play.

Before we start with the conclusion of this review, we want to say that Lenovo has once again made a logic-defying choice. It offers the IdeaPad 5 Pro (16″) with a 135W charging brick at best. At first glance, there is no issue with that. The laptop runs smoothly, and provides a decent performance output, although not fulfilling the potential of the Ryzen 7 5800H. However, if you plug your charger in, and you have anything less than 99% of juice in your battery, you won’t be able to max out your laptop. All in all, this laptop is pretty decent for what it is. You shouldn’t expect to get the full performance out of the processor, as the cooling can’t cope with it, and you should definitely keep the charger shenanigans in mind. However, if you want something that looks good, runs fast, and will allow you to work with content or play your favorite game, the IdeaPad 5 Pro (16″) might be a viable choice.

We knew that this one was going to be special from the beginning. The main reason for that? AMD. The Zen 3 ULV processors are simply in a league of their own when it comes to computational power. In fact, they are getting pretty close to their 45W brothers, and we think that they can actually be used for CPU-intensive tasks. In fact, we feel that AMD has just made the older Intel generation of processors obsolete.

As an all-around full-size laptop for daily use and multitasking, the IdeaPad 5 Pro 16 is unbeatable over here in Europe at the current price levels. This should meet most expectations with the sturdy build quality and clean design, the versatile 16:10 high-resolution screen, the complete IO, the competent specs and thermal design, and the long battery life, only skimping on audio quality and a few other minor aspects. So if you're after this sort of a full-size laptop that weighs 2 kilos and offers a 16-inch screen, you can't go wrong with this one.

The IdeaPad 5i Pro is a good option for content creators, but we have some advice for Lenovo that can improve it. They might want to include a larger power brick and a slight tune to the cooling, maybe one more heat pipe. Then we would have a serious contender to the Prestige 15, because, as of now, the MSI machine has this one beat to a pulp.

There is one area where we were the most disappointed – battery life. Even when we used the 60Hz display mode, we barely got 6 hours of Web browsing or video playback on a single charge. This means that the IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″, 2022) will definitely not last you through an entire workday on a single charge. It would be best to carry the 100W USB Type-C power adapter with you. On the other hand, it is a sufficiently big unit, which will fast charge your other PowerDelivery-enabled devices. We can confidently say that we’re happy with the cooling, as are we with the keyboard and the touchpad. Its IR face recognition works well, while the Full HD Web camera definitely presents itself as an upgrade over the conventional HD cameras. At the end of the day, it is tough to recommend this laptop. It is really good, but you need to make some sacrifices in order to fully enjoy it. The ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7401) is slightly more expensive, but a fairly better choice for this class.

The IdeaPad 5 Pro delivers performing and efficient hardware while keeping temperatures and comfort at a very good level. While the Intel version does carry more performance, it's Arc GPU does have its driver issues, which really limit its gaming capabilities, all the while the RTX 3050 that we have here is performing fantastically. The only thing that’s got us worried is the low RAM configuration that’s available, so hopefully, Lenovo can up the capacity.

Lenovo: Lenovo ( "Le" as in the English word legend and "novo" (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. From 2004, the company has been the largest laptop manufacturer in China and got the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide after the acquisition of IBM's PC division in 2005. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company also produces monitors, projectors, servers, etc.
In 2011, Lenovo acquired the majority of Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Lenovo took over Motorola Mobility, which gave them a boost in the smartphone market.
From 2014 to 2016 Lenovo's market share in the global notebook market was 20-21%, ranking second behind HP. However, the distance decreased gradually. In the smartphone market, Lenovo did not belong to the Top 5 global manufacturers in 2016.
