Laptop Radeon RX 7800M XT performs on par with desktop RTX 4070 in leaked 3DMark TimeSpy benchmark run
After leaking the specifications of a handful of laptop RDNA 3 GPUs, All_The_Watts has shared what appears to be the 3DMark TimeSpy run of a laptop Radeon RX 7800M XT GPU.
Per All_The_Watts’ previous leak, the RX 7800M XT features 60 Compute Units, 16 GB of VRAM, and a TDP of 165 W. With a 3DMark TimeSpy Graphics score of 17,842, the RX 7800M XT in question is 66% faster than the RTX 3080 laptop while being on par with the desktop RTX 3080 and the RX 6800 XT according to our database.
Interestingly, as noted by 3DCenter, the RX 7800M XT performs practically identically to the desktop RTX 4070 based on Guru3D’s TimeSpy Graphics score of 17,736 for the GeForce board. Assuming this benchmark run of the RX 7800M XT is valid and based on the recent leak that the board packs the same number of CUs as the rumored desktop RX 7800, we can extrapolate that the RX 7800 could end up beating the RTX 4070 since it will most likely have a higher TDP limit than the mobile part.
Moving on, All_The_Watts reports that the RX 7800M XT had a peak power draw of 189 W during the benchmark run while the board drivers had “clock report issues”.
Since we won’t get to know the final performance of the RX 7800M XT until we can get our hands on notebooks running the GPU, take these leaks with caution as the actual performance can differ considerably.
The TimeSpy performance of this "Radeon RX 7800M XT" (17'842 Graphics score) is on par with GeForce RTX 4070 Desktop (17'736 Graphics score according to @Guru3D ). The desktop variant of Navi 32 should be some bit faster (because higher TDP).
