LG Gram 15Z960
The LG Gram 15Z960 features a premium ultra-slim laptop design to captivate users with its capabilities and looks. Made from magnesium alloy, the chassis is extremely rigid and durable. The entire device is finished in silk texturing with nice haptics. The high-quality hinges allow the screen to rotate smoothly. With a weight of just 980 g and a height of 1.68 cm (0.66 inch), the LG Gram 15Z960's proportions are almost unrealistic and the display is almost borderless. The 15.6 inch IPS LCD panel features an FHD resolution. Users will certainly enjoy the its sharpness and color richness. Audio quality is equally impressive with the stereo setup from DTS Sound and a Wolfson DAC. The LG Gram 15Z960 sports an Intel Core i7-5500U processor clocked at 2.4 GHz, 8 GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM, an Intel HD Graphics 5500 GPU and a 256 GB SSD for fast transfer speeds. To sum up, the new 15-inch LG Gram is a design and engineering achievement for 15-inch notebooks. It might not be perfect, but to build a 15-inch notebook that’s so light and portable is truly remarkable. If you have been put off from 15-inch notebooks just because they are too bulky and heavy, you’ll definitely want to give the new Gram 15 a try. For such a game-changing effort for the 15-inch notebook industry, we're awarding the LG Gram 15 our Innovation Award.

The LG gram-15Z960-A.AA52U1 ($1,099.99 as tested) is a midrange ultraportable notable for its record-setting light weight. Despite the 15-inch display, it weighs just over two pounds, lighter than many smaller laptops, without compromising the large screen or performance. There's a wide variety of connectivity options and battery life is good, but aspects of the design do suffer given the tight build. The overall construction is a bit flimsy, an issue we experienced with the smaller version of this laptop, the LG gram 14$927.49 at Amazon. The 15-inch version has more positives than the gram 14, and a better price, but the lackluster chassis and keyboard quality still hold the system back.

It's rare that we review a laptop that's unlike everything else on the market. The Samsung Notebook 9 comes pretty close, and the 12" MacBook might if it weren't so small. That makes it hard to offer many points of direct comparison, or to say where the LG Gram 15 fits in the grand scheme of things. I will say that this is a harbinger of laptops of the future--they will continue to get lighter as material science evolves.

You can pack LG's latest laptop with its charger and still have less weight in your bag than with a 13-inch ultraportable.

That said, manufacturers don’t often cater to those of us who consider each ounce that goes into our bags. Nothing like the Gram 15 has existed before, and I think it’s very uncertain whether an improved version of it will in the future. Machines like this are incredibly rare. This is as good as an extremely ultraportable gets for now—though if Samsung’s 15-inch Notebook 9 is an indication, perhaps there’s a slim chance of even better times ahead.

The more you look into the LG Gram 15, the more you realize that prioritizing weight does not come without cost. LG could have offered a quad-core processor in this laptop, but that would have cut back on battery life. They could have included a bigger battery to compensate for that, but that would have made the laptop heavier.

The Gram 15 is a halo product—it’s designed to attract attention, which LG needs as a new entrant into the U.S. market, and as cutthroat as it is. And it'll be hard to ignore: This 15.6-inch notebook weighs an unbelievably light 2.16 pounds, under half of what most notebooks this size tend to register on the scale. Most people we handed the Gram 15 to couldn’t believe it was a real notebook. It's that light.

The lightest 15-inch laptop we've ever seen (by a wide margin), the LG Gram 15 is an impressive feat of engineering. The $1,100 model we tested offers solid Core i5 performance and a beautiful display, but its magnesium-alloy body has too much flex, and its battery life doesn't measure up to competing notebooks.

The LG Gram 15 is without a doubt the lightest 15-inch laptop in the world, but I'm concerned that too much may have sacrificed in order to hit this headline point. The flimsy screen is inadmissible by today's build quality standards, and the lack of a battery life figure isn't encouraging either.

When it ships, the LG gram 15 will come with Windows 10 pre-installed but we’re missing the all-important price so stay tuned. At 980g the LG gram 15 is crazily light for a full-size laptop and the specs are pretty decent, too. However, we’re waiting to see how much it costs and the display is worryingly bendy.

That said, our pick of the trio has got to be the gram 14 because it offers the best blend of performance and portability. It is just about the right size, slightly bigger than the gram 13, but not too big as to become cumbersome like the gram 15 could be. But perhaps more crucially, it benefits from having a larger 60Wh battery, giving it a whopping battery life of over 9 hours in our intensive test - or over two times as long as other comparable notebooks. If you have to constantly be on the move, this is the ideal notebook for you.

We think the LG Gram 13Z970 is tough to beat as a premium 13.3-incher. Configured with the same basic specifications as our review model, the competing Dell XPS 13 (2016) and the HP Spectre 13 are at least $100 more expensive, yet don’t offer a touch screen. You can get a touch screen with the Dell, but you'll have to pony up even more. And if you don't particularly care about tapping and swiping on your laptop, you can get the LG Gram 13Z970 without a touch screen for $899.

The LG Gram is a competent laptop that puts mobility first and foremost. Aside from maybe the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, there are few notebooks that successfully trim the fat like this. But, then again, the Dell, Lenovo, and HP options are nicer to use, prettier, and are built from more luxurious materials...and, in the scheme of things, they're pretty light, too.

LG marked its return to the notebook scene last year with the incredible gram 15 and gram 14 notebooks. Of the two, the gram 15 is arguably more impressive. Because even though it has a 15-inch display, it weighed a scarcely believable 980g, which, believe it or not, makes it even lighter than an 11-inch MacBook Air. This made it extremely popular amongst users who wanted the larger display of a 15-inch notebook but without the associated heft.

The improvements LG made to the Gram 14Z970 over the previous model make it much more than a notebook we admire for its light weight. This new version actually weighs a tiny bit less than the original, and sports slightly trimmer dimensions, too, while adding significant features. This time around, you’re getting a touch screen, keyboard backlighting, and a more rigid build. The battery life has more than doubled to nearly 16 hours in our testing, giving the Gram 14Z970 some of the best battery runtime of any light notebook we’ve reviewed. It’s also one of the very lightest notebooks you can buy, period, at just 2.14 pounds, while sporting a larger screen than many ultralight alternatives.

LG Gram 15Z975
LG has unveiled new LG Gram laptop systems with Intel’s 8th generation processors. The manufacturer is providing users with ultra-lightweight touchscreen laptops in two different screen sizes offering both a 13.3 and a 15.6-inch version. The LG Gram 15Z975 laptop is equipped with a 60 Wh battery capable of providing up to 11.8 hours of use from a single charge and weighs just 1.13 kg (2.5 lbs). The sleek metal alloy body of the LG Gram combines advanced nano carbon with magnesium to create a lightweight yet durable housing for the computer that's still beautifully thin at less than 1.78 cm (0.7 inch) thick. The cutting-edge design gives the LG gram laptop a roomy 15.6-inch Full HD IPS touchscreen display. It offers exceptional clarity from virtually any angle and is ideally sized for work or play. For performance and processing power, this LG Gram 15 comes with the 8th generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor, Windows 10 Home, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. There are no discrete GPU options and the processor is unable to maintain its maximum Turbo Boost for very long. The integrated UHD Graphics 620 provides no significant improvements over the HD Graphics 620 found on 7th generation ULV Core ix CPUs. Thus, even the aging GeForce 930MX is almost 60 percent faster than the LG Gram 15. However, fan noise is generally low, and both storage and RAM are surprisingly upgradeable. The ergonomically designed keyboard of the LG Gram is now backlit with adjustable brightness to be easier to use than ever in a variety of different environments, even in darkened rooms. The Gram is one of the few touchscreen-enabled notebooks which do not utilize edge-to-edge glass protection. It relies on thin glossy plastic instead. As a result, the screen feels fragile when tapping with a finger when compared to typical Android tablets or convertible notebooks. The forced glossy panel is also disadvantageous for reducing glare since brightness levels are only average. These cutbacks reduce the overall weight of the system at the cost of rigidity. However, the Gram's Reader Mode provides optimal reading conditions by minimizing unpleasant blue light, thereby reducing eye fatigue. Surprisingly, the Gram 15Z975 is able to incorporate most of the essential ports in spite of its light weight. Its three USB Type-A ports, in particular, are notable as more and more Ultrabooks are dropping this particular feature in favor of thinner form factors. Nonetheless, it would have been great to see a full-size SD reader and USB Type-C charging instead of the proprietary AC adapter port. It is worth noting that the latest Gram 15Z980 refresh has updated the USB Type-C Gen.1 port on the 15Z975 to Thunderbolt 3 for an even wider range of connectivity options. The LG gram 15 might look and feel the same as before but comes with a number of upgrades including 8th-gen Intel, more storage, a fingerprint scanner and Thunderbolt 3. It's amazingly light and offers excellent battery life too. However, all of this comes at a very high price (especially in the UK) and you can get similar packages at much lower cost with laptops like the Microsoft Surface Laptop and Lenovo Yoga 920.

Under a kilogram. The LG Gram 13 lives up to its name by being one of the lightest 13.3-inch Ultrabooks currently available. It's not without some sacrifices, however, as its barebone set of hardware features and fragile lid stand out as key disadvantages.

We really wish LG offered an out of the box Core i7 configuration with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD; that’s often the sweet spot for high-end laptop hardware, but you can only achieve this through your own upgrades. With that said, the options LG does provide are still decent, and there’s enough value to make it a great buy, especially for those that crave portability.

LG Gram 13Z980-G
The world will never run out of the need to have ultra-lightweight laptops to satisfy one’s daily requirements of travelling further and longer each day. And especially for one that looks as sleek as the new LG Gram 13Z980-G. While LG doesn’t have a lot of laptops and notebooks under their brand, the laptops from their Gram lineup are actually aimed at the community whose first requirement is for a ‘light’ laptop. All of LG’s notebooks from this series weigh under one kilogram. This 13.3” laptop measures at 15.5 x 306 x 212 mm and weighs only 965 grams. Its light weight gives the LG Gram 13Z980-G a considerable advantage over most of the bulky laptops in the market. It should be on the shortlist for someone who is looking for a laptop that is light and easy to carry around. Even though the LG Gram 13Z980-G may look like it was designed with business users in mind, it is not without its own fancy features. The laptop's keyboard comes with a backlight with two different brightness levels to adapt to the current working environment. This is especially useful for users who may need to work in a darkened room. The laptop also comes with a fingerprint scanner for security and users can use it to start, unlock or wake the laptop from sleep mode. The LG Gram 13Z980-G is equipped with the latest Intel Core i5-8250U. This 4-core processor has 6 MB of cache and a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, and with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, the processor can achieve a maximum speed of 3.4 GHz. This eighth-generation i5 will prove to be relatively fast and efficient, though it might run a little slow for more demanding programs. Even though it is expected, especially on thin laptops like the LG Gram 13Z980-G, it is still a little disappointing to see that the laptop doesn’t come with at least a dedicated entry-level graphics card. The LG Gram 13Z980-G comes equipped with an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. Users who like to play occasional games will be delighted to know that they can still play some casual indie games with this laptop. As for ports and connectivity, there really isn’t anything new or exciting with the LG Gram 13Z980-G, except for the Miracast wireless connection that it comes with. This will be great for those who prefer to cast their screen to a bigger screen. Other than that, the laptop also comes with three USB 3.0 ports (including one that is Type-C and doubles as a DisplayPort), one HDMI output, one Gigabit Ethernet port, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 combo adapter, and an audio jack. The thinness and the lightness of the LG Gram 13Z980-G are its most significant selling points. Add in the latest eighth-generation i5 CPU and an 8 GB RAM, this laptop is a no-brainer for those who require or prefer ease-of-mobility with their laptop. LG Gram 14Z980-G.AA52A1
The LG Gram 14Z980-G.AA52A1 is a lightweight laptop. Even with an impressive 14-inch screen, it weighs in at only 995 grams. As one of the lightest laptops on the market, the LG Gram makes carrying easy and sets a new standard in laptop portability. Build quality is generally good despite the lightweight. The weakest point is the lid, which exhibits a fair bit of flex. However, LG says that seven MIL-STD 810G tests have been passed for shock, low pressure, high and low temperatures, dust, vibration and salt fog. There's no convertible functionality here: the screen hinge stops at about 130 degrees, so it's not even possible to lay the screen flat on a desk to share content. The 14-inch LG Gram 14 runs on eighth-generation Intel Core i5 processors with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage. It is a decent specification that can satisfy casual and business users. The IPS screen offers great picture quality and exceptional clarity. Full HD display (1.920 X 1.080) allows for colour adjustment with greater accuracy thanks to over 96 % sRGB color gamut. Viewing angles on both the vertical and horizontal plane are also excellent. The speakers are a slight weakness if a user wants to enjoy or share audio. They are located on the base, which means that output was muffled when the laptop was sitting on a desk and muffled even more with it on the lap. Sound quality is a bit lacking in bass tones, but volume is impressive and doesn't distort even when maxed out. Ports and connectors are a little on the sparse side. The right edge has a USB 3.0 port, a headset jack and a microSD card slot, while on the left there's a further USB 3.0 port, a single USB-C port, a full-size HDMI connector and a round pin power input. Ethernet connectivity is catered for by a provided USB-C to RJ-45 converter. The keyboard has large, well-spaced keys that are nicely sprung and responsive. A two-level backlight provides plenty of illumination for working at night. A fingerprint scanner is discreetly located in the on/off switch that sits at the upper right corner of the keyboard. The LG gram has been updated with a 72 Wh battery. So, a user can keep working for a maximum of 21.5 hours. Fully charge the laptop and user will be good to go, with no need to worry about where to find the next outlet. As a conclusion, the LG Gram 14 has two key features: excellent battery life and sub-1kg weight. Its general compactness and high-quality IPS LCD screen are also plus points. There is a lot to like on this laptop and it can satisfy users who are always travelling with a laptop. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

LG's Gram 17, astonishingly light for a 17-inch laptop, delivers excellent battery life and a glorious screen. But the relatively high price, the plain design, and some quibbles with the keyboard and touchpad keep it from stardom.

The Gram 17 is wholly unique on the laptop market, but that also means it’s for a very specific person. A giant screen — even if it can’t be used for super intensive PC tasks — in this unbelievably light package will justify the $1,700 price for some. If you can go smaller, you’ve got no shortage of more powerful (and less flexible) laptops from Microsoft, HP, Dell, Asus, and others to choose from. But the 17-inch Gram is the sort of computer that’s hard to forget after you’ve used it for a bit. If your brain doesn’t remind you of what could’ve been, your back will.

In the end, the only things that count against the gram 17 are its below average performance (due to the use of single-channel memory), its high price, and the fact that it is still a large notebook due to the screen size. However, its expansive and gorgeous display and its incredible lightweight are probably enough to make most users forget about its shortcomings.

As was the case with the 15.6-inch Gram 15, if you want a large screen, long battery life and the lightest travel weight possible, the Gram 17 is the answer. It is nothing short of amazing that LG can keep the body so light while maintaining performance and battery life. LG must agree, too, given its $1,700 price. It has a couple of shortcomings like the keyboard and speakers, but otherwise, LG's made another solid big screen ultraportable laptop, even if it doesn't necessarily feel "solid."

You wouldn't buy this machine just for the weight though. After all, the smaller gram models are lighter. The 15-inch model from last year is just 2.4 pounds, and the gram 14 2-in-1 is just over 2.5 pounds. If you go the 13-inch route, which hasn't been refreshed in a while, it's just 2.1 pounds. You'll have to want the big screen as well. On top of that, you get a real keyboard, a full 15W quad-core Core i7, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. There's not much else that you can ask for in a portable PC that's just so light. At $1,699.99, the LG gram 17 is definitely a buy, if this sounds like the type of PC that you're looking for.

While the LG Gram 2-in-1’s keyboard, trackpad, and speakers are weak spots, this is overall an enjoyable laptop to use thanks to its spacious screen, long battery life, and light weight. It’s probably not a great fit for a desktop replacement, but it’s excellent as a travel companion. The included stylus is a nice touch for drawing, writing, and marking up documents, even if there’s no place to put it. If you’re okay with dropping $1,500 for all that, the LG Gram 2-in-1 could be the convertible for you.

As a laptop, the Gram takes all the fantastic features of the standard 14-inch model. The Gram 17 bucks the trend that 17-inch laptops have to be large and unwieldy. At just 1.34 kg, the laptop is noticeably lighter than most 14-inch and 15-inch Ultrabooks while offering many of the same features including Thunderbolt 3 and a long battery life.

At S$2,799, the Gram 17 is far from being the best bang for your buck, but might be a good choice for users who fancy a 17-inch screen in a lightweight, ultraportable package. For others, however, the lack of a dedicated GPU and robust build quality does little to justify the hefty price tag, especially since there are already more affordable, powerful builds on the market. LG’s newest member is as unique as it’s niche, which means most users will probably stand to benefit from the more common 15-inch ultraportable notebooks instead.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops. 6500U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks.
